Arrival at HPE
Important things to remember to make sure your student is not tardy:
- Students must be inside the school doors by 7:45 (8:45 on Fridays). Anyone arriving after that time will be considered tardy.
- All school doors close by 7:45. Anyone arriving after that time will need to go through the front doors to be let in.
- Announcements for the day begin at 7:46. If you are arriving at 7:46 or after you may be asked to wait a couple of minutes until the announcements are finished.
We appreciate your support.
Leaving Early?
- Help us ease front office congestion! Pick your student up from school by 2 p.m., especially on Fridays.
- Minimizing commotion the last 1/2 hour of the day helps us meet safety protocols.
- Is your student leaving early? Notify our front office staff (816.986.2250 or heather.wathan@lsr7.net) by Noon.
We'll inform necessary parties, and prepare your student to exit efficiently when you visit.

HPE Read A Thon
Get Ready for the Read-a-Thon!
From February 14th to 23rd, students at Highland Park Elementary will dive into a world of books for our annual Read-a-Thon! Packets will go home on February 13th with all the details. We’re encouraging students to read as much as they can and collect donations to support our school.
Let’s make this a fun and rewarding experience for our young readers, as we work together to foster a love for books and raise funds for school programs. Happy reading!

AMI Days
The Lee's Summit School District has used 5 AMI Days for the 2024-25 school year. We will have no more AMI Day this year and will be switching to traditional snow days in the event of any more snow. Since we had a snow day on Wendesday, February 6th, our new last day of school is Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
Cold Weather
As the colder weather begins to set in, we would like to remind you that recess will continue to be held outdoors, even in cold temperatures. It is important for students to be prepared for outdoor recess by dressing appropriately with coats and gloves.
Tips for Cold Weather Preparedness
Dress Warmly: Ensure your child wears a warm coat and gloves to protect against the cold.
Label Clothing: It is a good idea to put your child's name inside their coats. This way, if they leave them outside, they can be returned promptly.
Weather Guidelines for Outdoor Recess
We use a 20-degree temperature guideline for determining when recess is held indoors.
If the wind chill or temperature falls below 20 degrees, we will stay inside for recess
Please ensure your child is equipped for the winter weather so they can enjoy their time outdoors safely and comfortably. Thank you for your cooperation!

School Store Success!!
Thank you to over 230 families who signed-up to support HPE through the SchoolStore.com fundraiser. Already, we have raised over $800 towards our activities that are not covered by District funds. As families continue to find things online through SchoolStore.com, HPE will receive a portion of proceeds. And, students signed-up will accumulate points towards prizes. See the flyer for more information :)
