Weekly Parent Update
September 29, 2024
Saint Bridget School: a Catholic community that encourages a love of God, respect for all, and academic excellence.
Principal's Notes
As September comes to a close, we look forward to October, a month dedicated to the Holy Rosary. We are excited to announce that during our upcoming Tuesdays Together, we will be re-blessing the refurbished statue of Mary. This is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together in prayer and reflection.
Throughout October, students in grades 2-8 will have the chance to pray the Rosary as a class in the outdoor sitting area by the statue of Mary. This practice not only strengthens our faith but also allows us to delve deeper into the life of Christ through each set of mysteries.
We encourage you to talk with your children about the Rosary and its significance. Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to a spiritually enriching month ahead.
Here are a couple of links related to the Rosary and how to experience its beauty with your family.

Fall Picture Day Reminder: Tomorrow is Picture Day, parents may choose what students wear for pictures.
New Gym Teacher: Our new Gym Teacher, Mrs. Katrina James, will begin this week. Her school email is kjames@stbridgetschool.us.
Truck and Treat: Friday, October 25th is our Trunk or Treat event at 6:00 pm. This is our third year hosting this event, and we are looking forward to another great night! Mrs. Robbins will be sending out more information this week for those of you who are interested in hosting a trunk, and a RSVP link so that we can plan accordingly.
Change to Calendar: We have changed who will be hosting the Mass on January 28th. We will be having students from various grades host the Mass to reflect our school community during Catholic Schools Week.
All my best,

Faith Formation - Weekly Affirmation
Our focus this coming week is ~ Be Courageous
Joshua 1:9, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
God tells us to be strong and courageous, especially when you start new things. We don’t need to be afraid because God is always with us, no matter where we are or what we’re facing.
SBS Knights Basketball and Cheerleading Interest Survey - Grades 3 - 8
Please complete this survey if your child would like to participate in the SBS Knights Basketball Program, or the SBS Knights Cheerleading Program. This will help us determine interest, and have an understanding of the teams we will be able to offer this school year.
SBS basketball's home gym is the Spellman Center in Whitman, at Holy Ghost Parish. Practice and home game times are not known yet, it is dependent on how many teams we form and how many others schools participate at each grade level.
The basketball season begins on December 2nd and wraps up with playoffs the week following February break. Team practices begin several weeks prior to the start of the games.
Cheerleading practice takes place after school and cheerleaders perform at home games. The schedule is to be determined by the basketball home game schedule.
Curriculum Spotlight - HMH Into Reading
The HMH Reading program is organized into learning modules. Each module has a set of stories based on a theme and focus question. For the first module, the focus question of Ms. Crawford’s 4th grade class is “What makes us who we are?” In this module, students listen to, read, and view a variety of texts and media that present them with information about different characters. While reading the stories, the students will also be learning reading strategies such as: central idea, asking and answering questions, author’s purpose for writing, text and graphic features, figurative language, elements of poetry, point of view, and characterization. Learning these skills helps the students develop comprehension skills and become more thoughtful readers.
Ms. Crawford had the students listen to an excerpt from the story and read along in their books. As the story progresses, Ms. Crawford stops along the way so that students can think actively about what they read. For example, Ms. Crawford had the students stop for a moment and consider one of the focus words “ancient.” They discussed the definition for ancient and then recalled some examples of “ancient” things from a previous discussion. The students came up with many thoughtful responses. Then Ms. Crawford continued to have the students read part of the story and she posed a variety of questions for students to reflect on and respond during the discussion. Ms. Crawford also gives students an opportunity to write their responses. In this lesson, the students were actively involved in speaking, listening, reading and writing!
Ms. Crawford’s favorites: holiday: Christmas; coffee/ tea order: pumpkin spice iced coffee; flower: daisy; cookie: chocolate chip; place to shop: TJ Max; season: summer; Disney character: Ariel.
