LSNHS Counseling Newsletter
November 2024 🦃
Ms. Justene Smith (Cr-He)
Hello LSN Students and Parents,
My name is Justene Smith and I have returned to the Bronco family this year. I was a counselor here two years ago but took some time off to stay home with my two boys. I decided to return to LSN because this is truly a special place to work and the people in our building are unmatched. Another passion of mine is coaching as this is my ninth year coaching the Northern Stars Dance Team.
Our counseling department has been involved in career and post-secondary planning as we have been presenting in classrooms and conducting our All School Testing Day. All School Testing Day provides an opportunity for our students to take an exam that benefits their future planning. Our freshmen took the YouScience Career Assessment; sophomores took the Pre-Act; juniors took the Practice ACT; self-selected sophomores and juniors took the PSAT; and seniors chose from a variety of options that benefited their future planning. Overall, this was a successful event and we witnessed numerous students having a positive experience with testing day.
Looking forward, on November 19th, our counseling department will be hosting Post-Secondary Planning Night. This event is welcome to all LSN students and parents and will occur 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. The topics that will be discussed on Post Secondary Planning Night will include: college admissions, scholarships and FAFSA, career centers, attacking the ACT, NCAA/NAIA college athletic eligibility, highly selective college admission, and many more.
Please find a breakdown of counselors and their alphabets (by last name) below and feel free to reach out to your counselors (or your child's counselor) at any time with questions or concerns:

As a reminder to all students and parents/guardians, all LSR7 students must complete 10 hours of community service to graduate. Please complete these hours as soon as possible, particularly if you are a senior that has not done so. To see a list of possible community service opportunities and also view what counts/does not count for community service, please click here. Students may pick up the community service log (to record hours) in the counseling office.
Seniors and senior parents/guardians - do you have questions about scholarships and/or sending your high school transcript to colleges? Please see below for resources to direct you to help with these two common questions or reach out to LSN College/Scholarship Coordinator, Ms. Rocel Wright (rocel.wright@lsr7.net). This year, we will be introducing a new resource called SchooLinks for transcript requests and post-secondary research. More info to come to seniors in the next few weeks!
Thank you for your continued partnership with the LSN Counseling Department. Should you have any questions or need more information, don't hesitate to reach out. Let's have a great year, Broncos!
