October-November Learning Goals

PreK & Kindergarten: Primary & Secondary Colors, Line/Shape Stations, Warm & Cool Colors

I can identify the primary colors.

I can identify the secondary colors.

I can mix the primary colors to create the secondary colors.

I can review lines and shapes in stations.

First & Second Grade: Fall Leaves, Secondary Colors, Texture/Shape Collages

I can draw fall leaves from observation.

I can identify the warm & cool colors.

I can use watercolor resist and salt techniques.

I can mix the primary colors to create the secondary colors.

I can identify types of textures and use a variety of techniques to create texture.

I can identify and collage organic and geometric shapes.

Third Grade: Landscapes, Crazy Texture Sandwiches

I can mix the primary and secondary colors.

I can identify the foreground, middle ground, and background of a landscape.

I can collage different textures to make a silly sandwich.

I can identify and cut out realistic shapes and choose accurate colors to represent objects in a collage.

Fourth Grade: Out of this World Resist, Character Designs

I can create an imaginative outer space picture and use value to represent three-dimensional shapes.

I can use oil pastel resist in a background.

I can create a character design inspired by an artist, Nell Valle.

I can transfer my character design to styrofoam for a styrofoam relief print process.

Fifth Grade: Shantell Martin I Am Pictures, Monochromatic Self-Portraits

I can learn about a contemporary artist, Shantell Martin.

I can use symbols and words that represent who I am and what I like to do.

I can use a variety of line weights and contrast in a composition.

I can create a contour drawing of a self-portrait using a photo.

I can create a value scale with tints and shades and block in light and dark areas of my self-portrait.

Provided for by a generous Watertown Community Foundation Grant, artist Nell Valle visited our fourth grade classrooms this month and led a character design workshop for students.

Meet Ms. Chroneos

My name is Sofija Chroneos and I am the art teacher at Lowell School. A little about me, I have been teaching art for three years. Outside of teaching, I work on ceramics, jewelry-making, and gardening projects. I also enjoy staying active with running and weight training. I come from a proud Greek-Croatian first generation immigrant family. If you ever have any questions about art classes or just want to say hello, please never hesitate to reach out.
