Track and Field
We are praying for good weather for our Div I and Div II Track & Field Day on Friday,
June 6!
Div I (grades 1-3) will be using our own school fields to spend the day participating in
15 events. Each of the 15 groups will be led around the course by a grade 3 group
leader and assistant leader. It is always an enjoyable day by all. At the end of the day
the students will gather together for a freezie and ribbon awards for first through fourth
place. Mr. Alstad heads up this meet.
The Div II (grades 4-6) Track and Field Day will take place at the Strathcona Athletic
Park (behind Bev Facey School). The students will be in groups of 16 and travel through
16 events. The activities range from regular Track and Field events such as high jump
and 100m dash to irregular events such as sack races and dry land canoeing. At the
end of the day every student will be awarded with a first to fourth place ribbon. Mr.
Fung heads up this meet.
There will be a concession available at lunchtime for the Div II students:
Hot Dogs, Chocolate Bars, Chips and Pop: $2.00 each
Some reminders:
Students should dress for the weather. Mosquito repellant may also be a good idea as
would layered clothing as the weather may be variable throughout the day. Your child
should have sunscreen on all exposed skin. Please apply sunscreen at home.
Students are encouraged to bring snacks, a bottle of water with their name on the
bottle and they can bring a lunch.
Please note: ‘Parent Permission’ forms are for Div II only. This form was sent out via a
Permission Click email at the end of May. The form must be completed for each grade
4-6 student to be able to participate and ride the bus.
This day is only successful because of you, our parents, who volunteer to help us out.
Volunteer forms were sent home mid-May. The forms should be returned by now but if
you forgot, please phone the school and let them know.
We would like to give a huge THANK YOU to all our volunteers. You are awesome!

Calling all Grandparents!
Are you a past, present, or future grandparent of a student who attends SCA Elementary or Secondary Schools?
We would love your prayer support! An update is emailed out each week of ways you can support our school in prayer. If you are able, we meet once a month to pray for our students.
Please email Pastor Driedger at darren.driedger@eips.ca or phone the school office at 780-449-2787 to get involved.
We meet the first Thursday of every month at 1:00 pm at SCA Elementary. Our next prayer meeting is Thursday, June 5 at 1:00 pm and you are welcome to join!
We want to cover the schools and the children with prayer. Your wisdom and experience is needed for this.
Psalm 71:16 says: “I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, O Sovereign LORD!”
Read the rest of Psalm 71 to discover your mandate as a spiritual grandparent for all of our students.

Grade 4-6 School Supply Lists for 2025-26
On June 25 we will be emailing school supply lists to our grade 3-5 families for next year. We will be offering two options for 2025-26:
1) purchase school supplies as usual at your local store OR
2) purchase school supplies online.
Keep an eye out for this information in your inbox.
Please note - lists will be available on our website as well.
Grade 1 - 3 School Supplies
Parents of children entering grades 1-3 are reminded that you will pay a
fee in late September for school supplies that will be purchased and provided by the school.
Homeroom Placement
Your child's homeroom placement for the 2025-26 school year will be shared on
Tuesday, August 26 at 9:00 am.
Please log in to your Parent Portal account to find out which classroom they will be in for this school year. We kindly ask that you hold off contacting teachers prior to the first day of school.
Great care and planning occurs in placing each child in the proper class. Staff spend a great deal of time considering variables such as: individual needs, learning styles, peer groupings, social interactions, boy-girl ratios, special program grouping, educational assistant times, etc. before setting the lists.
Parents are asked to refrain from requesting specific teachers or homerooms.
Student Transportation: 2025-26 Registration
Planning to use Student Transportation in the 2025-26 school year? If so, make sure your child is
registered so Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) can plan routes and send your child a bus pass before the first day of school.
All students who indicated needing transportation services through the returning student or new student registration processes are now registered. Those families have also received tentative route schedules and invoices—fees are due June 30, 2025.
For those students who did not indicate needing transportation services during the registration process and want to now register, contact EIPS’ Student Transportation office at 780-417-8151.
For more information about EIPS Student Transportation, visit https://www.eips.ca/transportation.
NOTE: Families can pay fees online using powerschool.eips.ca. To pay in-person, visit the EIPS Student Transportation building during its office hours—Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on school days and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on non-school days.
Shuttle Bus Service for 2025-2026
In an attempt to relieve some of the school parking pressures at our elementary school, we are once again providing a free shuttle bus service, before and after school, to and from our secondary school.
Parents will both drop off their children in the morning and pick them up in the afternoon at the
secondary school.
We are encouraging any elementary families who have children in our secondary school and are
currently picking them up by car, or any families who find the elementary parking lot congested and
would like a larger parking area to retrieve their child(ren) to consider using this service. Families
using the shuttle service must agree to be committed to using the service daily, both in the morning
and in the afternoon.
To sign-up for the shuttle, please complete the online registration located here.
NOTE: Students who are signed up for regular EIPS busing should NOT sign up for the shuttle bus.
Students on regular EIPS buses can get off their bus at secondary with a parental note (sent to the bus
Pre-kindergarten Programming at EIPS
Is there a preschooler in your life experiencing identified developmental delays or challenges with speech-language—big or small? If so, Elk Island Public School’s Play And Learn at School (PALS) program could help.
Early learning lays the foundation for success in primary grades and beyond. As such, EIPS offers the pre-kindergarten PALS program in five of its elementary school locations. Applications are now open for free speech-language assessments for those interested in registering in the PALS program this fall. The assessment helps determine if PALS is appropriate for your child.
If you know a preschooler, born in 2021 or 2022, who could benefit from pre-kindergarten programming or want to book an assessment, fill out the PALS Program Request Form or call 780-417-8219. For more information, visit eips.ca.

Reporting Student Absences, Early Pickups and End of Day Changes
Dropping Items Off at School
To enhance building safety and minimize classroom disruptions, we kindly ask that parents dropping off items for their children during the school day do so at the office.
As a friendly reminder, if you’d like to walk your child into school during morning drop-off, please accompany them to the rotunda and allow them to make their way to the classrooms independently.
We appreciate your cooperation and support in helping our school days run smoothly!
