LEARNING HIGHLIGHTS
In Pre-K students kicked off the week with our annual Tournament of Champions. This annual field day event was great fun for students and grown ups alike. Students also immersed themselves in their new unit of study on gardening. They eagerly shared their knowledge about gardens, played a seed guessing game, created beautiful sunflowers, and labeled plant parts. Some of the books read included The Carrot Seed, Planting a Rainbow, Sunflower House, and I'm a Seed. Students learned about what plants need to grow and discussed different types of gardens. They also drew their own garden ideas, imagining seeds, flowers, and various vegetables. It has been a week full of fun and learning!
In Kindergarten this week, students continue to make strides in all subject areas. In Fundations, they are reading and writing sentences fluently, and learning to distinguish between narrative fiction and informational books. Readers' Workshop has turned them into avid nonfiction readers who eagerly hold onto the facts they learn. During Writing Workshop, students have been revising their work, adding more details, cutting unnecessary parts, and making thoughtful improvements.
This week’s read aloud featured "National Geographic Kids: All About Me," which the students thoroughly enjoyed. In Math, they are solving addition and subtraction problems with calculators, comparing numbers, and playing games to enhance their addition skills. Our Social Studies lessons have been fascinating as we explore how people live and play around the world. In Science, students are discovering how animals seek out places that provide food, water, and shelter.

FROM THE DISTRICT
1ST GRADE REGISTRATION
Do you have an upcoming 1st grader or know someone who does? Please remember to visit our Student Registration portal to register your child. To register a 1st grader for the 2024-2025 school year, the child must be a resident of Westfield, reached the age of 6 on or before October 1, 2024, and have not yet attended the Westfield Public Schools. Having the most up-to-date enrollment numbers are critical as the district plans for the upcoming school year.

JOIN THE PTO EXECUTIVE BOARD IN 2024-25
A Message from the Lincoln School PTO:
The PTO is a fun and rewarding way to be a vibrant part of our Lincoln family. No experience required! This is a great opportunity to get involved, to help make a great year for your Lincoln student, and to meet other parents!
We are gathering interest now for roles on the Lincoln PTO Executive Board for next year. The board meets once a month, either virtually or in person. Much of the work is done independently between meetings, and the time commitment required ebbs and flows through the year.
Committees and Class Parent volunteer sign-ups will be separately sent in the fall and are other opportunities to get involved.
Click below to see descriptions of Executive Board roles, and submit your interest now!
