October Family Newsletter
Principal's Corner
Dear Hallsville Intermediate Families,
We are already into October! Where has the time gone? Just a couple more weeks until Fall Break! October has 2 weeks full of dress up days. We sent those out as soon as we had them for anyone who wanted to prepare early! They are linked below as well.
We continue to learn about Habit 1: Be Proactive in our Leader in Me lessons. We have learned how to pause before becoming reactive and choose a better, proactive response. Up next, we are working on our Positive Self Talk! After Fall Break, we will focus on what is inside of our Circle of Control and what is not. We will focus in on the things inside of our Circle of Control and make positive changes.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership!

Multicultural Night - October 1st!
2024-25 UIL Academics!
And we’re off…! Practices began in mid-September but it’s still not too late to get signed up to join a team! Most of our teams still have spots available so get signed up to join in the fun! To sign up, click this link.
To clear up any confusion, there are only three teams that hold practices at the JH campus. Science (6th grade) on Mondays, Social Studies (5th & 6th grade) on Tuesdays, 6th grade math events on Wednesdays. All other events are at I-5 or I-6. The practice days and times are listed below.
Parents, please remind your child that UIL is a privilege to be a part of. Their behavior at practice should be the same as it is in the classroom throughout the day. Please remind them that they need to be respectful to the teacher, take part in the activities and not spend their time talking and goofing off.
Hallsville JH will host the district meet on Saturday, February 1, 2025. This year, the 5th graders will join the 6th, 7th and 8th graders at the JH Meet. There will be nine schools, including three that are new to the district (Nacogdoches, Jacksonville and Lufkin) so the competition will be tough. That’s why we’re starting our practices a little earlier this year. We will need volunteers to help us out so be looking for that information in December.
Bobcat Math & Science Team
The HJH Bobcat Math & Science Team (MST) kicked off their practices in early September getting ready for another successful run at the state competition. This month, we will hold our first competition on Saturday, the 26th. This will be an in-house practice competition for the Bobcats only. We will still need parent volunteers to help out but not as many as later in the year. As a reminder, 6th grade math practice is held on Wednesdays from 3:35 to 5:00pm. When you come to pick up your student from practice, please form a pickup line similar to the one that there is for the normal end of day pick up. For any questions, please contact Mr Gerald (mgerald@hisd.com).
We are looking forward to another great year!

Hallsville Parents - We have heard your plea for streamlined communication across the district. Please say hello to "Talking Points" and say goodbye to multiple apps. and signing up for various classes to keep up with your kids.
This year we will be using TalkingPoints to connect families with schools in your home language. You will be receiving messages in the upcoming weeks from your child's principal and teachers. Please save the numbers in your contact list so that you can reach back out if you have any questions or concerns. Have a great school year!
