Short Avenue IB Learners Strive to Be...
Mr. Lamb's Updates
Happy Weekend Short Avenue Families and Friends!
Thank you all so very much for a fun Halloween week and parade. It is always fun to see some of the creativity that comes from our students, families, and even staff. I hope you enjoy these moments of levity as much as we do! I also want to recognize all the hard work that went into setting up our school-wide ofrenda. It was great seeing the our Short Ave. community come together to create such a beautiful display to honor our loved ones who have passed. Thank you to FoSA for sponsoring the conchas and hot chocolate.
We are now in November which brings a host of items to be mindful of and I will list just a few below:
Daylight Saving ended today and we moved our clocks back one hour. This is a great time to check batteries in smoke detectors and to do other safety checks around our homes.
Election Day is Tuesday. There are items on the ballot from a national to a local level including ballot measures supporting LAUSD. I am not going to advocate for a measure or a candidate but I do hope you all get out to vote and celebrate this piece of civic action with your children.
Parent Teacher Conferences are coming soon. More information will be coming from the school about minimum days and ways to prepare for your meeting but first, please be sure to schedule a time to meet with your child’s teacher. These check ins are a great way to keep track of your child and their progress.
Thanksgiving Break is a full week. In the days leading up to this holiday please frame the break and the holiday as a time to be grateful. It is so easy for all of us to immediately think of a negative or a problem but it is so much more powerful to focus on joy and gratitude.
Finally, please take time this weekend to cherish moments with your child and/or children. Their schedules consume our schedules and it can be overwhelming at times. Trust me, I know. So if you are at another practice or game; another event or birthday party; or even helping with an assignment or other task please pause and find the joy in the moment. This weekend I am visiting one of my daughters away at school. We have not seen her since late August due to school, work, internships, and life. As hectic and tiring as travel can be, I am going to cherish the time.
Please enjoy the rest of your weekend.
See you Monday!

Hello families with younger siblings who you would like to come to Short Ave for TK and other grades (BOTH neighborhood and permit families ), please let us know who you are by filling out this google doc:
https://forms.gle/2Gjc8ireNMEPfbjA7
Current Short Avenue families on permit are not guaranteed a spot for a younger sibling, but will be given priority, when accepting students off of the waitlist. We have to see what our neighborhood enrollment looks like before we can offer spots.

Birthday Policy
Families,
We want to remind you of our birthday party policy. In an effort to be equitable and keep our students healthy, we do NOT allow caregivers to send in cupcakes and treats for birthdays. While classes may organize celebrations for various occasions throughout the year, birthday parties should be held outside of school. Parents are welcome to arrange with the teacher to read a story in their child's class, or lead a fun birthday activity. Additionally, parents are welcome to donate something special to the class in honor of their child. We understand that birthdays are special , and every student and staff member will be recognized with a birthday song at our monthly assemblies.
