Gallatin High Update
Week of April 1-6, 2024
Assistant Principals Appreciation Week
This week is National Assistant Principal Appreciation Week. At Gallatin High we are so lucky to have two wonderful assistant principals, Katie Laslovich and Randy VanDyk. Whether it's lending a listening ear, offering words of encouragement, or going above and beyond to address individual needs, their dedication and genuine care for students and staff shines through in how they approach their jobs each day. Their contributions truly make GHS a better place!
Softball won their homeopener against Helena High on Saturday
Tennis swept Missoula Sentinel and Belgrade for their home opening matches!
Importance of Sleep
Sleep in the Adolescent and Teen Years
Is your high school student getting enough sleep? A recent study by the CDC states that almost 60% of adolescents/teens are not getting the recommended 8-10 hours of sleep per night. Reduced sleep can increase both anxiety and depression and result in decreased attention and concentration.
So, how can we make sure our kids are getting the sleep they need? Here are a few easy ideas:
Encourage some sort of physical activity during the day. Physical activity can improve moods and decrease stress, leading to better sleep.
Provide a tech curfew: set a limit on screens at least one hour before bed. Instead of scrolling, help your teen build in a nightly ritual that promotes sleep (journaling, book reading, connecting with you!)
Make bedrooms screen-free during sleep: Phones and tablets should always be kept outside the bedroom. Establish a family expectation to charge them in a community space (such as a kitchen) at night. Empower teens to use an old-fashioned alarm clock to wake up.
Establish a bedtime routine: Consistency is key...humans thrive on routines and sleep is no different. Keeping the same routine can enhance relaxation, helping the body expect sleep.
Get help if needed: Schedule a pediatric visit if sleep continues to be a struggle.
RapTechs repairing Chromebooks. Thanks for all you do to keep computers running!
