Message from Mr. Burns
Hi Wims Families,
Happy Mother's Day to all our Wims moms! Words cannot express the impact our moms, grandmas, aunts, etc... have on us throughout our lives. I am fortunate to have a wonderful mother who raised five boys and taught us the importance of treating others kindly, the power of faith, and always giving our best effort at everything we do. I hope you had a moment to celebrate the important "moms" in your life today:)
Have a great evening!
-Mr. Burns
Kindergarten Registration
Currently, we have 51 future Wildcats enrolled for the next school year. Our Kindergarten staffing is impacted by the number of students enrolled for the 2024-2025 school year. If you have an incoming Kindergarten student, please use the link below to register them for the 2024-2025 school year.

Update on Dismissal
At the previous PTA meeting, I shared a need to increase our administration visibility outside when students are dismissed. We have a lot of middle and high school students who like to hang out at our basketball courts and playground as we are dismissing our students. We are telling students who are not current Wims students (and not picking up a sibling) that they cannot be on our school grounds until after 4:00 p.m. This will ensure only WIms students are accessing the property at dismissal time.
Wilson Wims ES Parent Input Form for 2024-2025 School Year
The process of composing classes for the coming year is a task that we take very seriously. It is important to ensure a productive classroom environment for your child as well as for all children. Most importantly, the staff at Wilson Wims Elementary School want you to know that we are committed to providing classrooms in which each child will have the opportunity for learning and personal growth. As parents, you know your child best as an individual. Your insight and input can be recorded below by answering the following questions found on this form.
It should be noted that this form is not a teacher request form. This optional form is a way of offering an opportunity for those of you who wish to provide parental input.
Please complete this form no later than Friday, May 31 2024. Further confidential concerns may be addressed in writing to Mr. Burns at: Kevin_M_Burns@mcpsmd.org
Gr. 5 Panoramic Picture
If you would like to receive a picture, please use the Google Form below. The cost of the picture is $10.00 each. Pictures will be delivered here to Wilson Wims, and will be distributed when we receive them. You are not able to order the pictures from Lifetouch, only from this form. You can access the Google Form here.
May: Mental Health Awareness Month
Did you know that May is Mental Health Awareness Month? Throughout the month, we will be talking about the importance of being healthy not just in our bodies, but also in our minds. During the month students will have many opportunities in their classrooms and throughout the building to participate in activities learning about tools and strategies to support their own mental health and wellbeing. On Tuesday, May 7th, please encourage your child to WEAR GREEN to show support for taking care of their mental health and wellbeing. Click on the Family Self-Care Calendar for some ideas that you can do at home.
Wilson Wims Spring Concert

From the PTA Board
Dear Wildcat Families-,
Happy Mother’s Day to all of our wonderful mothers! We hope you had a wonderful day celebrating YOU.
Thank you to all who attended the May PTA Meeting and huge congratulations to Amanda Anazco (elected PTA Secretary) and June Tiet (elected PTA Treasurer)! We look forward to working with you and seeing all the amazing ways you will contribute to our school community. Please join me in thanking Karen Accardi (outgoing Secretary) and Arti Varanasi (outgoing Treasurer) for your amazing dedication and service to Wilson Wims. We will miss you, but know that you will still be part of our community. After all, once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat!
Special congratulations to Mr. Chris Lazor for being selected as the MCCPTA “Support Staff of the Year.” This is an incredible honor for Chris, as his nomination was selected from those throughout the entire Montgomery County Public School system. Chris will be honored at the MCCPTA awards ceremony this Thursday evening and I am looking forward to sharing that with him. At the same ceremony, Wilson Wims will be honored as a PTA School of Excellence. I am honored to be present to receive that recognition.
Were you a PTA volunteer this school year? A committee chair/ event lead? Please save the date for Tuesday, June 4, our FINAL PTA Meeting of the year. After some official business, this is our volunteer appreciation meeting and it’s time to thank you! Please join us at 6:30pm (location TBD at Wims). Light fare will be provided.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The spirit wear sale/ sign pickup mentioned in the May newsletter has been canceled. If you still need to pick up your 5th grade yard sign, or would like to purchase one, please see the front office for assistance. We will be holding a spirit wear sale, as well as extra yard signs, during one of the evening Book Fair dates in early June - please keep an eye on the Sunday message for more information on that.
Have a Wonderful Wildcat Week!

SPIRIT NIGHT: WEDNESDAY, MAY 22
Treat yourself from a night off from cooking dinner and grab some Chick-fil-A instead! On Wednesday, May 22nd from 4-7pm, mention Wilson Wims and a percentage of your order will be donated to the PTA! This offer is available only at the Germantown location.
FUN RUN INCENTIVE DANCE: FRIDAY, MAY 24
Thanks to the generosity of our amazing Wims’ Community, we reached our fundraising goal last fall, which enabled us to offer all of the events you enjoyed this school year. As we promised, students will be treated to a spring dance to celebrate this achievement. The dance will take place in 45 minute increments with two grade levels at a time, beginning at 9:15 on Friday, May 24th. The dance will feature a DJ (one that you may be all too familiar with!) and a luau theme. We are looking forward to rewarding our students’ amazing success from Fun Run!
NATIONAL PTA SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE PROGRAM
Our PTA, in collaboration with our school administration and staff, is applying to continue our recognition as a National PTA School of Excellence. The focus is on meeting our students and families where they are and enhancing family engagement. The final step is completing a 5-minute survey on your experiences. You can click on this link to complete the survey in English or this link to complete the link in Spanish. You may also complete the survey by scanning the QR code in the attached image. Please complete the survey no later than Wednesday, May 29. Thank you for your support and feedback!
BOGO BOOK FAIR: JUNE 3-7
Book Fair is back - and it’s Buy One, Get One FREE! This is a great chance to get books in the hands of our students to read over the summer. Book Fair will offer both day and evening shopping hours. Volunteers are needed to make the fair a success. If you have not volunteered at Book Fair before, come give it a go- it’s a lot of fun to help the kids shop! You can sign up to volunteer here.
DONUTS WITH GROWN-UPS: WEDNESDAY, JUNE 5
Join us on Wednesday, June 5 from 8-9am for Donuts with Grown-ups! Students are invited to treat their favorite grown-ups (mom, dad, grandparent, neighbor, aunt, or uncle!) to donuts, coffee, tea, and juice - and then perhaps they’ll treat their favorite student to an exclusive shopping trip to the Book Fair! Donuts with Grownups is a free event, but pre-registration is required for planning & space limitations. Please RSVP here.
