IMPORTANT SAFETY REMINDER ABOUT BUS PICK-UP AND DROP-OFF
I have been asked to address a serious safety concern that has been brought to my attention. Haines staff have observed vehicles illegally passing school buses in the loading zone on 9th Street while the stop signs are extended. This behavior creates an extremely dangerous situation for Early Childhood and Compass students and staff.
I want to emphasize:
- This is a serious traffic violation that warrants immediate police intervention
- Bus drivers and staff are authorized to report violations to the police department
- In Illinois, this offense can result in significant fines and license suspension
To enhance safety during arrival and dismissal times, Compass Academy and The Early Childhood Center are partnering with the St. Charles Police Department to increase their presence in our school zone. While we are confident our Compass students and families are not the offenders, we wanted to make you aware of this increased enforcement.
As a reminder, we ask that all parents use Oak Street when picking students up or dropping them off during arrival and dismissal times, and that students who park on 9th Street leave after the buses have departed. This helps maintain a safe and orderly traffic flow during our busiest times. Also, please be mindful of the start and end times for Early Childhood: AM Session runs from 8:20-10:50 and PM Session runs from 11:50-2:20. They typically begin loading buses 15 minutes before their dismissal times.

THIS WEEK'S GLIMPSE AROUND CAMPUS
Compass Academy was thrilled to host a visit from Mr. Bill Digneit, Co-Director of the Innovation Institute at Northern Michigan University, where he serves as Department Head of the Theatre and Dance Department and Director of the Forest Roberts Theatre. He presented in various English seminars, talked with students in Theater Club, and answered questions from students interested in NMU.
Students in the Thermodynamics seminar tested insulation made from natural, environmentally friendly materials as one step in the process of building their own solar ovens.

HOMELESS YOUTH AWARENESS MONTH
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
November is National Homeless Youth Awareness Month, where we take this opportunity to raise awareness around students experiencing homelessness. Each year, hundreds of thousands of families face the challenges of homelessness, including families and students in D303. Students who experience homelessness are at a greater risk for emotional and behavioral difficulties. Since its declaration in 2007, this month has highlighted the experiences of those affected and inspired action to combat this critical issue. By educating ourselves and our local community on ways to support these individuals, we can contribute to the effort to end homelessness. Thank you to our dedicated staff for the hard work you do every day to support D303 students and families experiencing homelessness; your compassion makes a significant difference in their lives.
