To Our District 67 School Community:
Following the recent resignations of Lake Forest District 67 Board President Ms. Annie Geraghty Helms and Vice President Mrs. Alice Levert, the Board began filling the District 67 Board vacancies with a call for applications and a subsequent series of candidate interviews. Today, I am pleased to report that Mrs. Shyama Parikh Chauhan and Mr. Gregory Adamo were appointed as District 67 board members at tonight’s Board meeting. They will serve in an interim capacity through the next school board election, which will be held in April 2025.
Shyama Parikh Chauhan
Mrs. Shyama Parikh Chauhan is an attorney who holds a Juris Doctor from DePaul College of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Spanish from DePaul University. In addition, she owns and operates multiple businesses in Milwaukee, WI, and serves on several boards, including A Safe Place and the Lake County Bar Foundation. With children at Everett, she is passionate about contributing to the District 67 Board of Education, noting, “I intend to partner with the community to address the diverse values and needs of our students and vow to bring my knowledge, experience, and positive attitude with me each and every day as I begin working in this pivotal role.”
Gregory Adamo
Mr. Gregory Adamo is an attorney who holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science, a Juris Doctor from Chicago-Kent College of Law, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago and has represented indigent clients through the DuPage County Circuit Court. Greg gives back to his community in a variety of ways, including as an AYSO soccer coach. Leveraging his extensive legal and board experience, including a five-year tenure with the DuPage County Bar Association Board of Directors, Greg is committed to maintaining the high standards of District 67, where his children are enrolled. “I look forward to working with the current school board to maintain the District's current trajectory. Any school board is certain to face challenges, but I'll do my best as a board member to make sure our schools operate in the best interests of the students and community.”
New District 67 Board President, Vice President, and Secretary
Following the interim appointments, the new Board elected Mr. Mark Remus as President, Mrs. Emily Bernahl as Vice President, and Mr. Carl Kirar as Secretary. "I am honored to lead this Board,” says Mr. Remus. “Together, we will uphold our responsibility of oversight while remaining steadfast in our commitment to academic excellence, wellbeing, and the growth of every student."
More Ways To Serve
In addition to board service, there are other opportunities to serve our school community. All District 67 School Board and Committee meetings are open to the public, and the schedules for those meetings are available on our website's District 67 Board of Education page. Periodically, we also have openings for community members on our District 67 Board Committees. These openings are shared in our newsletters, website, and social media accounts.
As a District, we are fortunate to have many willing and capable community members who generously volunteer their time and talents. We thank everyone who applied to serve in this interim capacity on the District 67 Board of Education.
Sincerely,
Matthew L. Montgomery, Ph.D.
