Veteran's Day - Monday, November 11, 2024
Veteran's Day - Honoring our Community Heroes
Monday, November 11th was Veteran's Day - a day in America when we honor those who served our Armed Forces to protect our country during times of conflict and peace. Butler has a long-standing tradition of recognizing our school community's families of those who were members of the military. Once again, this year, Mrs. Hanna set "America's White Table" in our main lobby to honor soldiers who never made it home - based on a children's book. Our Veteran's Day Committee, led by Mrs. Szczypiorski, hung posters to decorate our gym foyer hallway - and students were able to read and appreciate the acts of so many of our loved-ones. Additionally, our Monday Morning Announcements shared an important History Channel video of November 11th - informing our students the significance for why we recognize our Veterans. Please join Butler in "Thanking a Veteran" as we honor those who served!
Important Information
Butler Cell Phone/SMART Watch/Personal Device Policy
At Butler, the use of student cell phone/SMART Watch/personal device usage in school is prohibited. As a reminder, these devices are to be silenced and remain in backpacks during the school day. Should there be a need for communication, that would take place with the support of the school office during the school day. Please be sure to share these expectations with your child as this policy will be enforced by teachers/staff in coordination with District policy.
CB and Butler Handbooks
Additionally, Butler has a Parent/Student Handbook that applies these district policies specific to our school.

Parent/Teacher Conferences - Save the Dates
This week, an email was shared about our upcoming Parent Teacher Conferences. Please note that conference days are scheduled for November 21-22 for Kindergarten and November 25-26 for Kindergarten through 6th grades. These 20-minute meetings provide a valuable opportunity for the school to connect and collaborate on your child’s progress and well-being. Expect a holistic conversation that focuses on your child’s academic progress, behavior, and social-emotional development. Report cards will not be shared or discussed during conferences (but RC's will be posted on Parent Portal 12/16).
When planning, we believe in-person meetings are best for discussing the progress of your student(s), but a virtual meeting upon a parent's request may be determined to best support a unique scheduling/need of the family.
Each classroom teacher shared a sign-up page for a meeting time. We look forward to partnering with you to support your child’s success!

World Kindness Day - November 13th - Kind Like Joey
Former Butler student, Joey Edwards, was a special student who helped others feel welcomed and important when he was a student at our school. He was a Butler Bear who always found the time to show kindness and appreciation to his friends, family, and teachers. Sadly, Joey passed away in 2018 - and to honor him, family and loved ones carried on his legacy with the Kind Like Joey Foundation - which serves to support families who have experienced loss and to recognize the importance of Kindness in our world and community. On Wednesday's World Kindness Day, Butler wore Yellow and Black in honor of Joey and to recognize the importance of this day! Some classes created kindness bracelets from supplied donated by KLJ - giving one to the guidance department, one for a friend/family member, and one to keep for themselves.

Every student was able to receive a $5 coupon - thanks to the generosity of the PTO! We hope students enjoyed the excitement and found a great adventure in a new book! Thank you, PTO!
