PRINCIPAL'S UPDATE
It's hard to believe that the school year is coming to an end. This will be the last newsletter of the year. I hope you all enjoyed your spring break! The change of weather marks the beginning of Spring and last few weeks of school. This week students started participating in state testing. During the remaining weeks of school, we will be celebrating Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week, 8th Grade celebration and our 8th Grade Great America Trip. More information regarding these events can be found in this newsletter. As is typical with this time of year, students need reminders of school rules and procedures. Please review the student dress code and electronic device policies that can be found in the student agenda book.
Last week we held our incoming 6th grade Open House. It was very well attended with over 1,000 participants. We are looking forward to welcoming almost 700, 6th graders to campus next year. We are anticipating a total enrollment of over 1,900 students next year. With this many students it is important that parents are reading all newsletters and emails from the school thoroughly as it is our best means of communication to such a large group. There will be information coming out in the summer regarding our MAZE days and our new Parent Portal.
Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week! Please join us in celebrating and appreciating the hard work of our teachers. We are partnering with the PTSA to make this week special. Activities planned for the week and opportunities for you to help can be found below. We are grateful for any way you are able to assist.
Finally, I would like to thank our parents and our amazing PTSA for all of their support over the course of this year. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the many volunteers who helped with the after school socials, putting the library together after construction, organizing student and teacher events, and for the monetary support to the school. Your selfless and generous work does not go unnoticed. We couldn't have done it without you!
Happy Spring!
Ms. Strausbaugh, Principal
TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK
STATE STANDARDIZED TESTING - April 29th - May 14th
CAASPP Testing
It is extremely important that students arrive to school on-time, well rested and have eaten breakfast on testing days (and all other days as well!). If students arrive late and testing has already started, they will not be able to enter the test and will need to make it up at a later time. Students are only testing in their English and Math classes and 8th graders will also test in their Science class. All other classes will have extended block schedules to allow for additional teaching, projects, presentations, etc... The detailed testing schedule including which tests are given on a specific day can be found here.
END OF THE YEAR
GREAT AMERICA FIELD TRIP
8th Graders who qualified to attend the Great America field trip will be going on May 29th. Student permission slips and money should have already been submitted. Students will be notified of the bus they are riding a few days prior to the trip. Students will leave school around 9:00am and will return to the school at 6:00pm. Students who did not qualify or have chosen not to attend should plan to be at school on May 29th and follow their regular schedules. Any student who shows up at Great America on the day of the event separate from the school event will be subject to school disciplinary action for truancy and disruption to the scheduled school event.
8th GRADE CELEBRATION
The 8th Grade Celebration will be held from 4:00pm-7:00pm on Thursday, May 30th. The theme will be "Caribbean Summer Party." Students who qualified for the event should have already submitted their RSVP Google Form. The deadline to submit has passed. No students will be permitted to enter, on the day of the event, who have not already submitted the RSVP.
