The Mabank ISD Education Foundation awarded nearly $30,000 in Innovative Teaching Grants just after staff members returned from their annual winter break. During a mini-convocation on Monday, Jan. 6, MISDEF board members welcomed staff members back and announced the winners.

The MISDEF will host its annual Valentine's Bingo at Triple N Ranch on Thursday, Feb. 13. This event features games, silent auction, prizes and fun.

Cost is $40 and includes snacks, non-alcoholic beverages and a Bingo card. Additional food, beverages and extra Bingo cards are available for purchase. For each ticket sold, $35 will be donated to the MISDEF.

The MISDEF was the first named recipient of the Smokin' Threads "Wear the Change" campaign. Smokin' Threads, a local custom screen printing and embroidery apparel business, started the campaign to give back to the community from which they receive so much support.

Smokin' Threads offered a specially designed shirt to customers for $20. For every shirt purchased, $10 was donated to the MISDEF. Plans are underway for the second annual Dash Down Market St. Patty's Day 5K. The event is set for Saturday, March 15 and will start at City Hall in downtown Mabank.

Rain did not deter running enthusiasts who registered for the MISDEF Annual Holiday 5K on Saturday, Dec. 14 at Panther Stadium. Despite a soggy lead-up to the event, by start time the rain had ceased and the clouds began to part. By the time runners finished, the sun was shining bright and the air had began to warm. The MISDEF appreciates all who participated in the event and those individuals and businesses who sponsored the event.

Sponsors included Lawyer's Title of Mabank, Home Instead, RPM Auto Enhancements, BnR Country, Smokin' Threads, The Nest, Flatland Cattle Company, Mabank Run Club, Mabank Mayor Randy Teague, GBC Mayor Brian Crull, Groom and Sons, and Triple C Trophy Whitetails.

The MISDEF awarded 12 gift cards for its mid-year drawing at the mini-convocation on Monday, Jan. 6. Winners, representing every campus in the district, received a $50 gift card.

Gift card drawings are conducted three times a year: the beginning of the school year, mid-year at convocation, and at the end of the school year.

These gift cards are awarded to help support educators in the classroom.
