Dear Avon Lake City Schools Community,
The weather this week was frigid, dangerous, and in ways, characteristic of how harsh Northeast Ohio winters can and will be at times. I thank you for your patience as we evaluate the need to keep the school district closed and make these decisions for the safety and protection of students and staff. I hope you remained safe and well during our days away earlier in the week.
Board of Education Places Bond Issue and Operating Levy on Ballot
At the regular meeting of the Board of Education this past Tuesday, two issues were voted upon for the purpose of placement on the May 6, 2025 ballot, the first being a bond issue to construct a new facility for Grades 5 through 8 at the Learwood location, and the second being an operating levy for the purpose of general operating expenses. The bond issue requests approximately $88,085,000 and would cost taxpayers approximately $96/year for each $100,000 of county auditor appraised home value. The operating levy would generate $3 million annually and would cost taxpayers approximately $69/year for each $100,000 of county auditor appraised home value. Combined, if passed, these two issues would cost Avon Lake taxpayers approximately $165/year for each $100,000 of county auditor appraised home value. More information can be found on the district website. We have also listed in the graphic below, so please take a moment to become informed regarding this issue.
