April 1, 2024
Hello Eisenhower Families!
This time of year is always extremely fun, rewarding and busy. We are excited for all things to come as we finish off the 2023-2024 school year strong.
Tomorrow our students will start bringing in books for our first book swap on April 4th. The goal is to get new books into the hands of our students and also restock our Little Library up front. This event was planned and organized by our student council leaders, including the communication sent to families. This group of students has accomplished many great things this year and it has been so fun to watch them in action.
This Thursday, April 4th we will be celebrating our amazing student population at Eisenhower's annual Multicultural Arts Night from 5:30-7:00 pm. Thank you to the team of staff members who have spent many hours planning this event which will feature professional and student performances, artwork, and student cultural presentations. Pizza will be served to families and food trucks will be on site if families would like to purchase additional food items.
Along with these events we also have track and field day, Book Bingo and the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments coming up in grades 3-5. It might seem odd that I pair assessments with other fun things happening in the building. That said, the MCAs allow us to measure our students' academic growth and provide reason to celebrate K-5. More information will be sent regarding assigned testing dates by your child(ren)'s classroom teacher. Please remind students that there is no need to stress about the MCAs and to give it their best effort. We can't wait to see how much they have grown. You can partner with us and support your child(ren) by making sure they get plenty of sleep and a good breakfast prior to their assigned assessment dates.
Thank you for all you do to support our team at Eisenhower!
In partnership and appreciation,
Lillian DeRung
Principal

Book Swap
A message from our Student Council:
Thursday, April 4th the Student Council will be hosting a book swap! If students want to participate they should bring in new or gently used books on April 2nd or 3rd and drop them off in the link on the way into school. The first 10 minutes of each grade level recess on April 4th will be designated for those participating to select their "new to them" books. Students can bring as many books as they want, however, they will be selecting a maximum of four books from the book swap. The left over books will be used to refill our Little Library in front of the school.
– Jillian and Aleena, Student Council members
A note from Principal DeRung:
This event is optional and fully sponsored by our Student Council members. Please help support us by ensuring students are selecting age appropriate books to share. Also note that we will not be previewing the books. Thank you for your support!

Parenting News
With warmer weather, kids want to spend more time outside. Whether your child is wanting to ride their bike, go on walks or play with friends, it is important to remind them about safety rules. It is also important as a caregiver to scaffold how to take calculated and informed risks. This includes trying the monkey bars on the playground, looking both ways when crossing the street or learning a new skill that scares them. Here are some strategies and ideas to support your child's risk taking and safety development. Grace Kwon is our parent educator and a great resource. Getting out the door in the morning tough? Child not getting enough sleep? Let her help add some tools to your parenting toolbelt.
