A few words from Mr. Jelks...
Dear LIS Families,
As we wrap up Black History Month, the Anti-Biased Film Festival, and Pink Shirt Day, it's essential to carry forward the lessons learned and the conversations ignited during these important occasions. These events have provided invaluable opportunities for us to reflect on our collective history, challenge biases, and promote inclusivity. Let us remember that our journey towards equity and understanding is ongoing and requires consistent effort and commitment from each of us. As we move forward, let's continue to embrace diversity, amplify marginalized voices, and strive for a more just and equitable society. By being kind, compassionate, and respectful in our words and actions, we can foster environments where everyone feels valued and empowered to thrive.
In a world often plagued by stereotypes and prejudices, it's crucial to remember the timeless adage: never judge a book by its cover. Each person carries a unique story, shaped by experiences, struggles, and triumphs that may not always be apparent at first glance. By approaching others with an open heart and mind, we can break down barriers and build meaningful connections based on understanding and empathy. Let us celebrate the richness of human diversity and recognize that true beauty lies in the depth of character and the richness of individual narratives. So, as we bid farewell to these commemorations, let us carry forward the spirit of unity, acceptance, and respect, ensuring that every day becomes an opportunity to celebrate the mosaic of humanity that surrounds us.

The Fair will be open from the end of school until 3:30 each day. In addition, each class will have an opportunity to browse the Fair during their regularly scheduled library period. Students should bring money on Tuesday or Wednesday if they intend to make a purchase at that time.

This week’s Outer Limits update
• CAST
By this weekend, all cast members who have speaking roles should have roughly 50% of their lines and cue lines memorized. If they keep memorizing their lines at this pace, they should be completely off-book (not using any scripts) by April 2nd (in one month). Please have your child keep practising over Spring Break, whenever possible, to keep the dialogue sharp and fresh in their mind so they won’t be ‘rusty’ coming back from the break.
• By the weekend of March 2/3 --> 50% of all lines/cue lines should be memorized.
• By the weekend of March 9/10 --> 75% of all lines/cue lines should be memorized.
• SPRING BREAK --> Keep practising your 75% so you don't forget any lines. If you wish and have extra time, keep going until you reach 100%.
• By the weekend of March 30/31 --> 100% of all lines/cue lines should be memorized.
• OFF-BOOK on Tuesday, April 2. We then start memorizing blocking (movement).
Remember that along with their own lines, they need to memorize ‘cue lines’ as well. A cue line is dialogue spoken by another performer which is just before your child’s line. By knowing all the cue lines, students will know exactly when to speak during the play. A great way for you to help your child learn their cue lines is having you read random cue lines from the script and your child then continues the dialogue after each cue line. This will help them truly master their dialogue.
• CREW
Crew members (main stage lighting, follow-spots, visuals, stage managers) are just starting (or soon will be) to work at their stations with their scripts. Crew members don’t have to memorize anything. They always have their scripts in front of them at all times.

Attendance
We ask parents/guardians to call the school before 9:00 am at (250) 245-3351 or email Info.LI@sd68.bc.ca to notify the school of your child’s absence. Please follow up with a note to your child’s teacher when your child returns to school so the teacher can address any missed work, homework issues, etc. Also a reminder that if students need to leave early, they should be signed out in the main office.
School Closure
The following is a reminder about the NLPS school closure procedure for students.
If schools are closed due to snow, or any other weather-related problems, announcements will be made on local radio stations (WOLF 106.9 FM, WAVE 102.3 FM, and 91.7 COAST FM) by 7 a.m., or earlier, on the day of the closure. Please do not call the radio station – tune in and listen for the announcements, which will be made on a regular basis.
In addition, the district will post the information on the district’s website, Twitter, Facebook, and mobile app. Families may also receive a message through the School Messenger notification system via phone, email, or text. Please keep in mind, however, that there may be situations where this is not always possible, for example, power outages or technical problems. The most reliable method is to listen to the local radio stations.
