Welcome to the new year! We hope everyone had a fantastic winter break and extended snow days! We are certain that our Cougars took full advantage of sledding around the neighborhood! Please see the newsletter below for important information and dates!

February marks the start of Black History Month, a time to highlight and celebrate the contributions of African Americans while also reflecting on the continued struggle for racial justice.

We are excited to share that a PTA Committee has planned some incredible activities and events for our students and families for Black History Month. Please join us in thanking Tonia Awoniyi and Cathy Whealon for creating engaging opportunities for our students and for highlighting community events throughout the month.

The PTA will sponsor a History Fair on Monday, February 10th from 6:00-7:00. It will be followed by our first Choral Concert in the APR from 7:00-7:30. Additionally, we will be hosting a social and historical sciences career day in school that day. This will be a great opportunity for our students to learn about interesting careers in these fields. Cashell was rated 4 stars on the 2024 MD Report Card. We were very close to earning 5 stars! This is an annual rating system. Check out our scores.

MP2 Report Cards will be available in Synergy on February 4th. Click the button below to view a tech short video which provides a quick tutorial on how parents can access their child's report card using the ParentVUE mobile app. Hard Copies of the report cards will be sent home in Friday folders on February 7th.

Students have also been working through the midyear administration of both MAP and DIBELS assessments. Please look out for updated information from your child's teacher once all testing has been completed.

MCPS will not longer create PDF Lunch Calendars. There is now an interactive meal viewer that students and families will use to determine the lunch choices for the day.

We are gearing up for Valentine’s Day at Cashell!

We will celebrate on Friday, February 14. All students will have a class party and students can also exchange valentines. Room parents have been working with classroom teachers directly to plan. Classroom teachers will share more information with all parents through email. If your child does not celebrate, please contact your child's classroom teacher.

Registration for the JJMCMC 14th Annual Spelling Bee and Benjamin E. Mays Oratorical Competition is open.
