Dear Mission View families-
Spring is in the air, and we have a busy and exciting month ahead here at Mission View Elementary! Here’s a look at some important events and tips to help your child succeed.
Standardized State Testing – April
This month, our 3rd-5th grade students will be participating in the state-mandated standardized testing. While these assessments are an important part of our academic year, we know they can sometimes be stressful. Here are a few tips to help support your child during testing season:
-
Encourage a good night’s sleep: Rest is crucial for their focus and performance.
-
Healthy breakfast: A nutritious breakfast helps fuel the brain for the day ahead.
-
Positive mindset: Help your child feel confident by reminding them that they are well-prepared and that the tests are just one part of their learning journey.
-
Stress-reducing activities: Encourage relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing, to manage any test anxiety.

21st CCLC- After School Programs
Students continue to strengthen their academic skills while also engaging in hands-on activities. In the garden, they have been busy planting and will soon be harvesting lettuce, carrots, and radishes to make a fresh salad.
Bike Club has been taking rides off-campus, exploring the South Tucson community. Meanwhile, Folklórico students are diligently practicing their dances in preparation for the May performance. The May performance will be at our 4th Quarter Awards Ceremony, May 22nd.
We are excited to host a "Trenza Making Day" on April 26—parents and students are encouraged to attend! Girls will wear trenzas for the May performance, adding to the cultural significance of the event.
Last day of 21st CCLC program is May 2nd.
Parent Teacher Association (PTA)
THANK YOU to all who supported our Krispy Kreme Digital Fundraiser event the month of February and March. We were able to raise $757.50 during this event! Our K-2 classroom winner was Ms. Ximena Gomez-Peralta's class with 29 dozens sold. Our 3-5 classroom winner was Mr. Luis Carbonell's class with 20 dozens sold. Those two classes were able to enjoy donuts for raising the most funds for our school.
At our last meeting, PTA members voted to host a Raising Cane's fundraiser on Wednesday, April 23rd from 2:00 - 8:00 pm. Mission View PTA will be earning 15% of their net sales during the time frame. The location will be at the 2150 E Ajo Way. More information will be on its way.
Wednesday, April 30th will be our Dia del Niño Field Day! We are excited to partner with community partnerships in making this event a success. We have partnered with Target and Raising Cane's with providing drinks, ice pops, and more for our students. We are also asking for parent volunteers to make this event a success. Please contact Ms. Liz Hoover for how you can help with field day.
Our 3rd - 5th grade students will be taking important state testing the month of April. PTA will be purchasing ice cream sundaes for all 3rd - 5th grade students who are present on all testing dates. Please talk with your child's teacher to know which dates will count towards earning the ice cream sundae.
Please join us for our PTA meeting on April 22nd at 3:00pm. Snacks will be provided and a raffle for attendees. At our next PTA meeting, we will be finalizing plans for our upcoming Teacher Appreciation Week theme and daily appreciation (May 5th - May 9th), and voting for our President and Vice President officers. Please join us in sharing your voice to making these upcoming events successful! We hope to see you at our meeting.

Counselor's Corner
April is testing month, a chance to let everyone know how much we have learned. Students and teachers alike want to be outdoors enjoying our beautiful weather. Let’s be sure and give our children time to play and relax after school and “let their steam out” after a hard day of testing. Research has shown, what we all know anyway, test scores go up and learning increases when children are allowed (or encouraged) to exercise.
Our Character Strong counseling lessons will be centered around the theme of courage. We want our students to show courage in taking risks to pick the best answer while testing. We’ve learned strategies to calm test anxiety. Intermediate students made flip books showing which strategies they will focus on.
Hopefully, we will excel at the state testing and show the community that hard work, with family support, counts.
Your counselor,
Jan Milligan
