The Riverwalk Roar
The Riverwalk Roar: February, 2nd 2025
A Note from Dr. Compton
Happy Sunday, Pride,
I hope everyone had a wonderful and restful weekend. My family and I spent the weekend in Boone, NC, celebrating my oldest daughter, Campbell’s, 17th birthday. She wanted to go skiing, so we spent the weekend at Appalachian Ski Mountain. Great news - everyone made it back home with no broken bones and only a few bruises!
Before I dive into the real purpose of this message, I want to provide a quick new building update. As previously shared, the state fire marshal conducted a follow-up inspection on Thursday. The good news is that he has officially signed off on the fire and safety aspects of the building. In addition, an inspector from the Office of School Facilities visited for a pre-inspection. She requested that we relocate a fire pull station and address a few minor items. By the time we left on Friday, all items had been taken care of, and she is scheduled to return on Monday at 1:00 p.m. for a follow-up visit. We’re re hopeful that, following her visit, we’ll receive our temporary certificate of occupancy. We will share an update with our families once we have confirmation.
Now, on to the real reason for this message - to recognize our incredible school counselors! This week, we celebrate National School Counseling Week, and we want to take a moment to express our gratitude for the amazing professionals who support our students every day.
We are fortunate to have a phenomenal counseling team:
- Ms. Carr - Elementary School Counselor
- Ms. Teague - 6th -9th Grade School Counselor
- Mr. Hosenfeld -10th -12th Grade School Counselor
- Ms. Born - College and Career Counselor
Each of them plays a crucial role in helping our students navigate challenges, build confidence, and plan for the future. Whether they’re assisting with academic and career goals, providing emotional support, or simply offering a listening ear, they are an essential part of the Riverwalk Academy family.
I encourage everyone - students, parents, and staff - to take a moment this week to show appreciation for our counselors. A simple thank-you note, a kind word, or a small gesture can go a long way in recognizing their dedication and hard work.
Ms. Carr, Ms. Teague, Mr. Hosenfeld, and Ms. Born - thank you for all you do to make Riverwalk Academy a place where students feel supported and encouraged to thrive. We are truly grateful for you!
Let’s make this week extra special for them!
In Pride and Purpose,

This past week our elementary 4H Club students were visited by Exotic Encounters, a local group that does a live animal show. Allowing students to get up close and personnel with some amazing creatures, learn what they eat, where they come from, touch them, and even feed them! Here 4th grade student Mary Workman is holding a Tenrec which is a mammal from Madagascar.
