A MESSAGE FROM THE OREGON DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION (ODE)
The Oregon Department of Education (ODE) is closely monitoring the evolving landscape surrounding federal funding and the most recent federal executive orders and their potential impact on education programs across the state.
Our commitment remains steadfast—ensuring students and educators have access to the tools and resources they need for learning and success. We are actively engaged with state and federal partners to gain clarity on next steps and any necessary adjustments.
School districts will continue program implementation as planned. ODE will provide timely updates if we learn of any future funding changes.
Resources we encourage you to share widely in support of and in service to Oregon’s scholars:

A MESSAGE FOR FAMILIES ABOUT IMMUNIZATION RECORDS
We understand that keeping up with immunization requirements can be challenging, and we appreciate your efforts in providing the necessary records. As schools, including MESD Nurses and Health Assistants, work with families to meet state-required immunization guidelines, we want to share how this information is used:
Immunization dates from records provided by families are entered into Synergy for tracking and compliance purposes.
These records, including the Certificate of Immunization Status (CIS) form, are securely stored in the student’s cumulative file as part of their education record.
If a student is not up to date on required immunizations and has not submitted a non-medical exemption, state guidelines require schools to share relevant information with Multnomah County’s Community Immunization Program to support compliance efforts.
Immunization details are not shared with any outside agencies, including healthcare providers, without permission from a parent or guardian.
Our goal is to support families in navigating these requirements while ensuring that student records are handled with care and confidentiality. If you have any questions or need assistance, please reach out to your school’s health team.
UPCOMING DRILLS (REPEAT)
All schools are required to instruct and drill students on emergency procedures so that the students can respond to an emergency without confusion or panic. In the coming weeks, we will be conducting the following drills at Atkinson:
- Tuesday, February 4: Fire/Evacuation Drill
Read more about these drills on the PPS website HERE.
SPRING STOPPS DRILL (REPEAT)
PPS Transportation will conduct the Spring STOPPS drill (Safety Training of Pupils in Portland Schools) for all riding students on Thursday, February 6. Learn more HERE.
