A Message from the Principal
HAPPY SUMMER!
I want to take a moment to reflect on the wonderful accomplishments of our students at Chapman this school year. Our fifth graders are transitioning to middle school, and it's heartwarming to see how much they have grown and achieved throughout the year.
I also want to express my gratitude to our PTA and volunteers for all of your help with Field Day, end of year class parties, and 5th grade recognition. These events were memorable for everyone involved! I extend my sincerest thanks to our supportive community of parents and staff members for their unwavering dedication to our school and its programs. Your contributions make Chapman the exceptional place that it is.
As we look ahead, please mark your calendars for the upcoming school year. Students in grades 1-5 will begin on August 19th, Kindergarten on August 20th, and preschool on August 21st.
Thank you for a fantastic school year! Wishing you all a wonderful summer!
Warm regards,
Mrs. Harrell
Congratulations Class of 2031!

(You do not need to submit this form for 5th graders who are moving on to our middle school.)
Taking the Leap to Middle School
Do you have an incoming 6th grader? Do you have a student transferring to SMS from
another school? Navigating the change from elementary school to middle school can be
overwhelming for children. The SMS transition groups will be offered again this year for
incoming 6th graders or transfer students in grades 6-8. These groups include a variety
of topics our middle schoolers face...CLICK HERE for more information.

Mobile Units at Chapman for 24/25 School Year
Chapman was the first elementary school to have a mobile unit, which held two classrooms, for the 23/24 school year. The board has approved units at many of the elementary schools for the 24/25 school year to help support our growing capacity and with this decision, Chapman will receive a second unit.
Each mobile unit holds two classrooms. For this upcoming school year our students in grades 3-5 who participate in gifted math services with Mrs. Nosan will continue to be in the mobile unit along with students receiving English as a Second Language Services with Ms. Mayher. With the addition of second unit at Chapman for the 24/25 school year, Title 1 Reading services with Mrs. Piorkowski will also be in the mobile unit. The fourth classroom will be a flexible small group space and will be able to accommodate any future influx in enrollment at Chapman.
Our current unit is located behind Chapman and our second unit will also be placed behind the building.

Updates From Dr. Ryba
Partnering to Support All of Our Kids - Concerns with THC Use
One of the reasons I love being in Strongsville is that I know we all work together to support our students. Over the years, SCS, like many other school districts, have seen a rise in students using THC. Sadly, this year our secondary administrators and I have worked with more students that are truly addicted than ever before. CLICK HERE to see concerning information about the increased levels of THC content in marijuana and THC products. As a school district, we are working to develop education, diversion and counseling programs to support our students that are struggling with drug use. This is not just a high school issue, but an issue of growing concern for middle school students. Specifically, there is a growing group of students in 7th grade that continue to discuss using edibles before and after school and are suspected to be using, but we have not found anything at school. I am writing to you today to share a request for your help. Whether a parent of a middle school or high school student, please continue to talk with your kids and keep a watchful eye so we can support and guide them towards productive life choices at home and at school that will lead our kids to a positive future.
Student State Test Scores
If your child took a state test in math, science and / or social studies in grades four through high school, results are now available in PowerSchool by clicking on the “State Assessments” link. ELA results will be added this week. Grade three students' results in ELA and math will be added prior to the end of June when we receive the scores from the State of Ohio.
SMS / SHS Summer Work for Honors Courses
Summer work for honors courses at the high school level have been shared with students in class and will also be posted on Strongsville High School’s website starting Friday, May 24th. There is no formal summer work for students in SMS taking honors courses, except for accelerated math courses if students are skipping content. You should have already received emails about the ALEKS program from the curriculum office. There is an optional / suggested list of summer reads for SMS students that will coordinate with themes the students will be studying next year in Language Arts. The Strongsville Library is also coordinating in this effort.
Supply Lists
Each elementary building will have their supply lists posted on their website by late June. SMS supply lists are currently posted on the building website under “Find It Fast”. There is no specific supply list for high school classes. Rather, teachers will let students know the first week what is needed.
Students in Grades 3 - 8 Leaving the District Must Turn In Their Chromebooks
As the school year comes to a close, we want to remind all families with students in grades 3-8 who are leaving the district that they need to return their Chromebooks to their school Media Center by the end of the day this Friday (5/24). It is important to ensure that all devices are collected and accounted for. Please note that if a Chromebook is not returned and the student is unenrolled, a charge for a full replacement will be issued. Thank you for your cooperation and support in this matter.
First Week of School - August 19th
CLICK HERE to access our 2024-25 school calendar. The first day of school will be August 19th for students in Grs. 1-9. August 20th is the first day for Kindergarten and Grs. 10-12 and August 21st will be the first day for preschool.
Plan Ahead to Enroll for 2024-25
If you can help us get the word out to families moving to Strongsville or enrolling students in SCS that it is best to do this as soon as possible. Over the past few years, we have seen a pattern of people waiting until the week or two prior to the first day of school to enroll. Waiting until August to enroll may delay a student’s ability to start on time, have busing ready and attend their home elementary school. CLICK HERE to learn more and start the enrollment process. Once we have all the necessary registration paperwork submitted, SCS will finalize the registration process within 48 hours. For students that do not enroll until August, that extends to a 72 hour turnaround due to volume. Again, by registering children in June and July, we can ensure every child is ready to have a successful first day and school year.
