March 14, 2025
Hello Spicewood Families,
Thank you so much for answering the call this week to help make our STEAM Day and Art in the Classroom events a huge success! We had over 150 volunteers this week to make these events happen. Special thanks to Jennifer Price, Nicole Cimo, and Pryscila Gutoski for organizing this amazing experience for our students! Special thanks to our PTA for feeding all of our staff today! It was such a great day.
IMPORTANT Safety Information!
Spicewood Basketball Court Closed from March 19th-25th
During Spring Break, we will have our Sports Court project completed. This will make this area of the playground off limits for the second half of Spring Break. We know that many families use the playground and track when there is no school so we are asking to please help us spread the word to the community that there may be equipment and construction going on from Wednesday- Saturday. In addition, the court should not be touched or used for 48 hours after it's completion. We are working on some signage and some barriers to keep this area safe but we are asking that no one enter the area during this time. The court at Spicewood will be off limits until Tuesday the 25th at the earliest. We are looking forward to our beautiful court!
Have a great Spring Break!
Sincerely,
Melanie Solis

🌼 Spring Planting Success!
Thank you for all the plant donations this week! Our Spring Planting was a huge success! All classes had a chance to visit our garden. Check out some of the connections we made:
Making Connections:
Kindergarten: Our garden is an ecosystem, and we are a part of that system! We planted flowers in our garden beds which help attract pollinators, repel pests, and add color. :)
1st and 2nd Grade: Both grades had a chance to plant AND pickle on STEAM Day! What does it mean to pickle vegetables? Why do it?
3rd Grade: Plants have to persevere, and it takes patience to see their growth. Students shared their recent discovery that singing and saying kind words to our plants vs. bullying them can actually have an impact on their growth.
4th Grade: Companion plants support one another’s growth! Tomato and basil make great companions, but tomatoes and potatoes do not. Consider who you surround yourself with! Plus, we just learned on iReady that tomatoes can detect pests and, in response, give off a chemical odor. 👀
5th Grade: Gardening is a form of creative expression. We planted our herb bed using coordinate planes!
