Back to School Night: September 19th from 6 - 7:30 pm
Join us for Back to School Night! The teachers are anxious to meet you and your children and they are excited about sharing important information regarding the coming year and your child’s immediate needs. Do not forget to calendar our Back-to-School Night scheduled for Thursday evening starting at 6:00 p.m. in the café on September 19, 2024 when all teachers will go into much more detail regarding their curricular program. Every teacher will present their information twice as a courtesy for parents who have multiple children at Arlington. The first presentation is at 6:30 and the second presentation at 7:05. This is a parent only meeting, so child care arrangements should be made. Thank you. Which session will you attend? Please click the link to fill out the Session questionairre.
Spirit Wear Drawing - Educational Benefits Form
Friday is the last day to receive 2 tickets !
To incentivize families to complete the Educational Benefits Form early, Arlington is gifting our students’ with a small thank you gift for having their family complete the application, in addition, each family will receive a ticket toward a drawing of a Superstar Spirit Wear. All families (if you qualify, or not) will receive the small thank you gift and ticket (or tickets). All Arlington families need to reapply each year for the Free and Reduced Meals on the Educational Benefits Form.
Did you know, students who qualify for FRL, are also eligible to apply for our FREE afterschool DevELOPment Academy? This is after school, Expanded Learning Opportunity Program, every day, until 6 p.m. Read here for more details. LINK EBF
Absence Reporting
The Arlington team asks that all absences are reported on the Absence Reporting Link by 10:30 a.m.
If you call the office, you will be referred to this link, so we prefer you only use the link. Please note, all absences are tracked daily. If your child has an appointment, rather than miss an entire day, please have your child attend school even if for a portion of the day. Thank you.

Student Drop Offs
Students can be dropped off at the front gate at 8:20 a.m. for breakfast. Campus opens at 8:35 for a morning recess. At dismissal, students can be picked up on Van Ness at the front gate or through the drive up lane. Please communicate with your child where you will be picking them up so they know if they should be watching for a car to enter the drive up lane. *All students in grades 1st - 5th will be dismissed at the front gate. If you are picking up a 4th or 5th grade student we ask that you NOT enter the pick up lane until after 3:15 p.m. This allows parents picking up 1st - 3rd graders to access the lane more quickly and elminating back up along Van Ness Avenue.
Where will you pick up your child? Fill out the questionairre and return to your child's teacher.
After School Extended Day until 6 p.m.
Arlington has an afterschool DevELOPment Academy (also called ELOP) for families who qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch. This is a free program for those who qualify. Students who are identified as English Learners, have access to apply for a fee based tuition, pending space. Please see the website for more information. https://www.tusd.org/educational-services/elop/index
Arlington also has a YMCA on campus. Parents may call the YMCA for more information. We are lucky to have a YMCA right on our campus! The YMCA provides care before and after school, the number you may call is 310-325-5885 ext 7498 or (213) 207-0889.
Lunch
Lunch times for our Super Stars vary by grade level. Each student is given approximately 20 minutes to eat and 20 minutes to play. TK and K lunch is at 11:45 – 12:30, 1st and 2nd graders eat at 12:05 –12:50, 3rd graders 12:25 - 1:10 pm and 4th and 5th grade lunch is from 12:30 – 1:15. Students will be able to select a cafeteria lunch (*meals continue to be free this school year) or they may bring a lunch from home, in an effort to promote healthy eating, please reserve sweets, candy, large bags of chips, energy drinks, and soda for home only. Many parents find that their children are more comfortable bringing their lunch from home for the first week or two just to help your child get into the swing of the lunchtime routine.
School Hours
Regular school hours are from 8:50 – 3:03 for grades 1st – 3rd and 8:50 – 3:12 for grades 4th – 5th
Every Wednesday, students in grades 1st – 3rd are dismissed at 2:18 p.m. and 4th and 5th at 2:27 p.m.
TK and Kindergarten hours are 3 hours on August 22 and 23 only from 8:50 - 11:50 a.m. with no lunch served. Then starting on August 26th from 8:50 - 1:50 p.m.
Parking for Families - Streets opposite of the school
Parking is very limited. Parents and children are encouraged to walk to school. Please note, all parking spots in lots are reserved for staff. These include spots in our lots on Van Ness, 178th St. and in the staff parking lot. We ask that parents park on the opposite side of the street and use our Crossing Guard to ensure the safety of both you and your children. We urge our drivers to be cautious, courteous, and practice safe driving and parking rules throughout the year. Be sure to read postings for parking restrictions. Thank you for your consideration for our neighbors, not to block driveways and not to move their trash bins when set out. Thank you.
Beginning of Year Reminders
A few reminders before sending your child to school.
1. Label, label, label. Arlington's lost and found is quickly filled with jackets, lunch boxes, and water bottles. Please label these items so the staff can return these to our students. Items without names are donated throughout the year.
2. PE and YMCA Play are held on Thursday and Friday. Please have your child wear appropriate shoes on both these days. All shoes need to cover the heel and toes. (No open toed shoes, ever)
3. Waterbottles. Students are encouraged to bring a refillable water bottle to school. The temperatures are hot in the fall. Arlington has filtered water-bottle refill stations.
4. Dropping off a lunch? New procedure. If needed parents may drop off a lunch for their own child only. There will be a table outside the office. Make sure your child knows in advance. The office will no longer be calling for pick ups. Label the lunches with their name as bags often look the same.
5. Picking your child up early for an appointment? Students who are picked up early must be signed out. Please get a note from the doctor for documentation. Please plan ahead, if your child is at recess when you come to pick up, the student will be called at the end of the break. Refer to the bell schedule.
6. Medications? If your child requires medication, please be sure to bring it in its original container with the doctor required form to the health office. Forms for asthma meds, epinephrine (EpiPen), and other medication, can be found here medication forms packet. Our health office is not allowed to administer medication without the forms. If you have questions about which form, please email arlingtonhealthoffice@tusd.org
7. Sun safety. Thanks for thinking of your child's skin as they are outside daily. Consider hats (labeled), sunglasses (labeled), and spf lip balm and sunscreen.
8. Register your child. Registration is an urgent matter. During this process you list all emergency contacts, who is allowed to pick your child up, medical or health information, medication, allergies. Registration is different from enrollment. Registration is all the details of your child's enrollment, and must be done EACH year. Questions about registration please contact tomita.jill@tusd.org
