A Reading Challenge to Remember!

This year, third-grade teacher Mr. Jakob Johnson challenged his class to read 1 million words, promising to shave his head if they met their goal. Not only did his students rise to the challenge, but they surpassed their goal by the start of the year and have continued adding to their word count ever since!

At a recent House Rally, Mr. Johnson made good on his promise, shaving his head live on stage to the cheers of an excited crowd. Inspired by the moment, second graders are already looking ahead to next year, eager for their turn at the challenge. It was a fun and unforgettable celebration of reading that left students motivated and ready to take on new goals!

Lodi USD has released a new Middle School Course Catalog! It includes information about core subjects such as English Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Science, Physical Education, and foreign languages (available at select sites). Please note that elective offerings vary by school, and site staff will provide additional details. The catalog also includes information about A-G requirements to help families understand college and career readiness. While the College/Career Indicator (CCI) and Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways are part of high school, middle school is a great time to start thinking about future opportunities.
