Christmas break is always a wonderful time, but it's good to be back teaching music to everyone. Here is a general outline of what your students are going to learn next:

Kindergarten & 1st Grade: Rhythm vocabulary & learning to recoginze sheet music symbols

2nd & 3rd Grade: Relearning notes of the staff, apply it to xylophones & maybe recorders, sheet music reading project

4th Grade: Learning higher & lower range recorder notes, recorder karate project

5th Grade: Drumming lessons, apply drumming techniques to pop & rock songs

Practices for after school band & choir start this upcoming week. Practices go from after school to 5pm. The google doc below has a list of dates & status update for both band & choir. "Good" indicates practice is happening like normal. A "cancelled" practice means there is no practice due to a specific reason detailed in the next sentence.

As concerts get close, letters will be sent home with specific details. Below are some dates to save. Any changes will be sent via the Weekly News smore.

February 28th: Elem & MS Solo & Ensemble Contest, 3:30-6pm @ Colony MS

March 4th: Houston Feeder Combined Band Concert, 6pm @ HMS

April 22nd: Elementary Honors Fest Concert, 7pm @ Palmer HS

May 21st: MLE Spring Concert in the gym, time is TBD
