This week we will be exploring STEM-related competitions that kids of various ages can participate in to gain more insight into the scientific world. These competitions are made to challenge and develop growing minds in their pursuit for knowledge throughout their scientific careers. We hope they are excited as us to engage in the passion of STEM and train the next generation of talented minds! ๐ง
STEM-Based Competitions ๐
Math Kangaroo ๐ฆ
Description: An annual international mathematical competition for thousands focused on improving students' math scores and teaching them new strategies for solving word and logic problems.
Application: September - February
Grades: K-12
FIRST LEGO League 1๏ธโฃ
Description: FIRST LEGO League introduces science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to children through fun, exciting hands-on learning.
Application: May/June - September/October
Age Range: 4-16 years old
Destination Imagination โ๏ธ
Description: In DI, teams of students solve open-ended, STEAM-focused challenges and present their solutions at many different tournaments for all age ranges.
Application: Early March deadline [PA]
Grades: Pre-K-12 (depending on specific event)
3M Young Scientist Challenge ๐ธ
Description: The annual challenge asks students in grades 5-8 to submit a 1โ2 minute video for a chance to win $25,000 and an exclusive mentorship with a 3M Scientist.
Application: Opens in January, closes in May
Age Range: 5-8
Future City Competition ๐๏ธ
Description: Students work in teams to imagine, design, and build cities of the future using SimCity software and physical models.
Application: Opens in spring, closes in fall [tentative dates]
Grades: 6-8
Broadcom MASTERS ๐
Description: A national competition for middle school students to present STEM projects and win scholarships and prizes.
Application: June deadline
Grades: 6-8
