Prestons Post
Term 1, Week 9
Principal's Message
Dear Prestons Public School Community,
What a fabulous week it has been in Year 3! I had the wonderful opportunity to join the students for their morning routine, and it was truly heartwarming to see their enthusiasm and engagement. A huge thank you to Mr. Bui, Mrs. Ross, and Mr. Van Ruth for the fantastic job they are doing in nurturing our Year 3 students.
This week, we delved into the fascinating world of Antarctica, linking our lessons to the writing and mentor texts that Year 3 will be exploring. The students displayed incredible curiosity and creativity, and I can't wait to see how their writing develops from this engaging topic.
Upcoming Events:
I would like to remind everyone that our Cross Country event is just around the corner on Friday 4th April. We invite all families to come along and cheer for our students as they showcase their athletic skills. Please keep an eye out for more information, which will be shared via the Sentral app.
This week also sees our Year 3-6 students participating in Gala Day. As always, I am proud of how our students represent our school with great manners, sportsmanship, and behaviour. A friendly reminder that all students must wear full school uniform, including a hat, while representing Prestons Public School.
Friday April 4th is also our Easter Mufti Day! Students are encouraged to come dressed in mufti and bring an Easter egg donation for the P&C Easter Raffle, which will take place at our Easter Hat parade on Friday, April 11th at 12:30 PM.
Building Remediation Update:
I am excited to share that we will begin remediation work over the next few months to repair the damaged floorboards at the back of the hall, as well as the damage to our admin building. During this time, the office will temporarily relocate to demountable buildings. We will provide more details and a final timeline as we receive updates from Schools Infrastructure.
NAPLAN Congratulations:
Lastly, I would like to congratulate our Year 3 and Year 5 students for their bravery and perseverance during NAPLAN over the past two weeks. We are proud of each student for trying their best.
Have a great week, and don’t forget to ask your child what they are learning at school!
Warm regards,
Liz Van Der Meulen
Principal, Prestons Public School

Year 6 Students going into Year 7 High School - Site Closing 31st March 2025
To enrol your child in Year 7 for 2025, you will need to complete an Expression of Interest for Year 6 to Year 7 transition. The Expression of Interest (EOI) lets you indicate which school(s) you would like your child to attend in Year 7.
The EOI process will be available online from 6th March – 31 March 2025 and accessed through the Prestons Public School website. After you submit an EOI and it has been assessed, your child will be offered a place at a high school.
If your child will not be attending a NSW Government high school next year, please let us know by completing a Placement Not Required form.
If you are unsure whether they will be attending a NSW Government school (you’ve applied for a private school, or you are moving interstate), we ask that you still complete an EOI and follow up with your school once a decision has been made.
The online process will guide you through your options and collect the information required to make the process as smooth as possible.
For parents or carers who are not able to complete an application online, a paper EOI form can be collected from the school office.
For more information about moving to high school, visit:
https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/going-to-a-public-school
To submit your EOI (Expression of Interest) or PNR (Placement Not Required) for your child please visit the Prestons Public School website, click on the Enrolment Tab and then the Moving to high school section. (Digital link will be available from 6th March – 31st March 2024)
Please contact the office if you have any questions or need assistance with this process.

Classroom Chat with 1/2 Curious
Our class has had a great start to getting back into their learning for Term 1 2025. It is hard to believe that it is already week 8 and that the holidays are nearly upon us.
The new morning routine has seen us learning together about the weather, days and months of the year as well as 100 days of learning.
Our weekly book focus has seen us look at quality texts such as “Pig the Pug” and “Thelma the Unicorn’’ both written and illustrated by Aaron Blabey.
In English we have been completing tasks based on our texts of the week as well as sorting and interacting with letters of the alphabet.
We have enjoyed our counting and other songs in maths and using objects to help us to familiarise ourselves with numbers and 2D shapes.
We have seen some pleasing results in our learning.
Harmony Day
We would like to recognise and celebrate the diverse perspectives, experiences, and contributions each of our students and teachers bring to Prestons Public School.
Breakfast Club
What an amazing morning we had on Thursday at Breakfast Club. A big thankyou to Constable Briggs and Senior Constable Abela and our parent volunteers. We had some very excited students taking home a book, kindly donated by the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation.
Photo Day - Thursday 29th May 2025
