Yellow Jacket Family News
Volume 2, May 5, 2025
Greetings Yellow Jacket Families!!! 📣
This is the last week we have with our Class of 2025 seniors. Their last day of school is May 9, 2025, and their report card grades will post on Monday, May 12, 2025. Prom is this Saturday at the Gaylord Hotel. Tickets are needed to attend.
Last week was a successful testing session. This week will only be AP Exams, make up exams and Algebra 1 tests for sophomore students. We will operate on a normal schedule.
Uniform checks will occur on Monday to reinforce expectations, even with testing. Students are expected to be in khaki pants, white/black/gold shirts and have clear book bags. Anything incomplete will result in a parent contact as a minimum.
We have many celebrations from last week:
- Our Electrical Vehicle Team participated in the Gran Prix Race at RFK Stadium on Saturday, May 3, 2025. We are so excited with the success of our inaugural team and look forward to dominating next year!
- Our Marching Band participated in the Apple Blossom Parade in Winchester, VA on Saturday, May 3, 2025.
- Our Envirothon Team has been renewed and competed in the 2025 Envirothon Competition with great success. We look forward to dominating next year.
- Our dance program had a beautiful production on Thursday, May 1, 2025.
This WEEK is TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK!!!! PLEASE take the time to thank an EDUCATOR for the impact they have made on your children!
We will no longer have individualized water bottles for students; we have water coolers in multiple locations in the building, and students need to bring their own water bottles to fill from the cooler.
If you have any concerns, please reach me by email at naima.hopkinsvinson@pgcps.org. Follow me on Twitter @GPHS_PrinHopVin, and join the band app .
I wish you a safe and restful Spring Break, and a happy fourth quarter!
Your Purposeful Principal,
Naima Hopkins-Vinson

Cell Phone/Mobile Device Request 🤳📲
While mobile phones continue to be useful tools in education, they have also become a harmful distraction for many teenage learners during the school day. We are asking all parents to help by exploring ways of implementing parental controls on student mobile devices during school hours. We also ask that you have regular conversations with your children about responsible usage of mobile devices and social media. We will be having ongoing conversations with the community about this throughout the year to promote a safe and healthy learning environment for all.
Please note that TEACHERS ARE PERMITTED TO HAVE NO CELL PHONE POLICIES IN THEIR CLASSROOMS, and students must adhere to these classroom rules.

Change in After School Activity Pick UP
To ensure a smoother and safer pick up process, we are making a small change to the after-school activity student pick-up procedure. After-school activity pick-up will take place at Door #16 by the gym. This adjustment allows us to manage the flow of traffic better and ensure all students are dismissed in an organized and timely manner. Door #16 is on the east side of the building near the football field.
