Halloween Dress Code (Safety Reminders)
The Oceanside Unified School District is committed to maintaining a safe learning and teaching environment for our students and staff. Our security personnel, schools and district administrators continue to work with local law enforcement and other safety entities to make all of our schools safe.
With that in mind, please reference the following dress code guidance for the upcoming Halloween/Winter Festival festivities.
Please note, many sites have already instituted a Halloween Dress Code that may be even more conservative than the district's recommendations - the site's dress code should be the standard.
No masks or helmets covering the face or head allowed; no excessive face paint
No props of any kind (this includes, but is not limited to , guns, swords, knives, pom poms, shields, etc.)
No military uniforms for secondary students
No excessive blood and gore
Device Protection Plan
The enrollment window for the Device Protection Plan for student Chromebooks is now open.
We highly recommend taking advantage of this affordable plan to safeguard your child's Chromebook against accidental damage or theft. The cost of repairs for Chromebooks can range from $40 to $400, but for only $20 per school year, the Device Protection Plan provides coverage for up to two incidents of accidental damage or theft.
Purchasing the plan is simple and convenient. You can do so online with a credit card or electronic check through our secure payment portal at www.myschoolbucks.com.
The enrollment window for the Device Protection Plan is limited, so we encourage you to sign up as soon as possible. Invest in your child's learning experience and ensure their Chromebook is protected throughout the school year.
SPORTS⚽🏀
If your student would like to join a sport they need to fill out a Sports Packet.
❗Sports packets will be available in the PE locker room❗
You can also complete the digital form, print it and turn it in to a P.E Teacher
E-Bike Safety Rules Reminder
To ensure student safety, please remember that all E-Bike riders must follow safety guidelines and California E-Bike laws, including wearing helmets at all times and riding with only one person per bike.
Site administrators have the discretion to develop support and disciplinary plans for students who violate these rules. Consequences can include contacting parents to bring a helmet or to come pick it up.
Let’s continue to prioritize safety and reinforce these important rules for the safety of our students
Early Pick Ups
We strongly recommend not to pick up your child during the lunch period. Security does their best at calling out for the students but its not a quick process with over 450 students out at lunch. Please be patient and give yourself plenty of time if you are headed to an appointment if picking up your child during this time. Students can not be released the last 15 minutes of the day.
Cell Phones - "During the Day, Off & Away"
Cell Phone Usage
Students must turn off (ringer/tone/sounds off) and store their phones in their backpacks upon entering campus. Phones should stay off until they leave.Exceptions
Students with specific accommodations (IEPs, 504 plans, or medical conditions) may have phone access as specified.Communication
Classrooms have landlines for students to contact parents when necessary. Phones will be accessible in emergencies.Academic Benefits
Reducing phone usage helps students stay focused and engaged in class.Safety and Security
This policy helps prevent cyberbullying, ensures students focus during emergencies, and reduces the risk of theft or loss.

Construction Timeline and Safety
Dear Jefferson Families,
We are thrilled that Jefferson Middle School is undergoing a $47.6 million modernization.
Our campus will be transformed into a state-of-the-art learning facility that will enhance the academic experience for students. Our community is incredibly deserving of this exciting opportunity. You will not be able to recognize Jefferson when we are done. Getting there will be a process. There will be a time when our school does not look pretty. This is expected and part of transforming our campus into something spectacular. Please know that as your principal, I am here to guide you through every step. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Here are some frequently asked questions you may have:
How long will construction take?
The modernization of Jefferson is expected to be completed Winter 2026. It is essential to know that this timeline could fluctuate, a normal part of this process. Due to the age of our campus, we may uncover additional work that needs to be done. Completing this work does not mean we are behind schedule. It must be done before we can complete the project. Crews may need to pause some aspects of the project if we experience heavy rain. This is also something that we need to keep in mind.
Is this safe?
Yes, the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. Rest assured, they do not have access to construction areas. The work is happening in enclosed areas with adult supervision. We have multiple layers of oversight for this construction project. All of the work we are doing must be approved by the state agency in charge of construction on TK-12 schools, known as the Division of State Architect (DSA). The DSA has assigned an inspector to this project who is on campus to approve the work that is being done. The construction company has also a designated member of their team who monitors the campus daily for safety.
I understand the importance of keeping you informed about the progress we've made. I will continue to update you weekly on the latest developments of our modernization project. Your understanding and support are greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Dr. Penuliar
