🏖️ Back to School Beach Bash 🏖️
Our wonderful SIES PTA is hosting a Back to School Beach Bash THIS Sunday, August 11th, from 4 - 6 pm. Come join us on the beach behind the school (take the boardwalk located at the end of our bus loop on the left side of our building) and connect with old friends and meet some new ones, too! Each student will receive a color coded band corresponding to his/her grade level to aid in easy identification of fellow friends in his/her grade. So, grab your beach chairs, pack some snacks, and head on down for a fun family friendly event to celebrate the start of a new year!
🚗 School Dismissal Manager: Set Up Today! 🚗
Default dismissals and accounts need to be set up as soon as possible so we can verify proper dismissal for each student on the first day of school. Additionally, if your child rides the bus, please ensure that the correct bus stop is listed.
Just a reminder that teachers cannot accept text messages, written notes, or emails to change dismissal. All changes must be made through School Dismissal Manager, so please plan accordingly. All changes must be submitted by 1:15 pm on regular school days.
For any questions regarding school dismissal, please contact Erin Wiseman at erin_wiseman@charleston.k12.sc.us.
🚍 FirstView App Changes 🚍
If you use the FirstView app to monitor bus routes at any CCSD school, please note that the district will now only use ONE code for the entire district (instead of a unique code per school). CCSD's code is GF8G.
This is a recent change and is different from the one listed in our Family Handbook. Please click on the link below to access a step-by-step guide for the app.
📚 Gifted & Talented Nominations: Grades 3-5 ONLY 📚
Every year in grades 3-12, students who have not yet identified as gifted and talented (SAIL) and are showing high academic potential are offered the opportunity to participate in aptitude testing. This year, nominated students in grades 3 AND 5 will test in August in an attempt to allow all children who qualify as Gifted and Talented per SCDE guidelines to begin gifted service as early in the school year as possible.
At SIES, testing for all nominated 3rd AND 5th grade students will start the week of August 19th and will possibly continue into the following week, depending on the number of students tested. All 4th grade students will test in October, regardless of nominations AND prior GT identification. Students who are in 4th grade and qualify from this testing will start SAIL immediately.
If you are interested in nominating your child, or if you have any questions concerning the Gifted & Talented testing, please reach out to our Gifted & Talented teacher, Greg Thomas, at gregory_thomas@charleston.k12.sc.us. Mr. Thomas will also have a table at Meet the Teacher, so feel free to stop by and chat!
*Please Note: All second AND 4th grade students will participate in Gifted & Talented testing in October. This nomination process is only for students in grades 3 AND 5 who have not yet identified as gifted.
📥 Not Receiving Emails 📥
If you know someone who is not receiving school emails, please direct them to our website. This year, all Beginning of the Year parent communication/newsletters will also be posted on our website. Once all registration is complete and verified in PowerSchool, parent contacts will sync with our mass email system. This occurs on a nightly basis, so all email issues usually correct themselves when this occurs. However, summer registration is always a process, so please be patient as all the steps are completed.
If you have any questions or you continue to not receive emails once the school year begins, please contact our Parent Educator, Lisa Marie Ferguson (lisa_ferguson@charleston.k12.sc.us) for assistance. 😀
