Our school year is off to a great start in the Learning Center with library and computer science classes!

During the week of September 15, students in the Learning Center joined over 20 million children and adults around the globe in 195 countries to celebrate International Dot Day, inspired by author/illustrator Peter H. Reynolds’ storybook The Dot. Dot Day inspires young and old to embrace the power of personal creativity to help make their mark on the world, and move it to a better place.

We have all been so busy preparing for our exciting visit with author/illustrator Brendan Wenzel. A huge thank you to The Book Stall in Winnetka for bringing us this amazing visit for free. First, second and third graders visited the Makerspace this month during second recess. Together they tinkered, designed, folded and marble-runned their way through recess.

Our fall session of Coding Kids is underway! Newcomers to Coding Kids are exploring the ins and outs of Scratch Jr, programming races and games for each other to play. Second and third graders that have previously participated in coding are learning new ways to practice their coding skills using code.org.
