From the Principal's Desk
Hello Little Viking Families,
I can't believe we are saying goodbye to February and hello to March! Trimester 2 ends this week and report cards will go live on Friday, March 7th. To review your child's grades, please log into skyward. While you are there, you can also register for the 2025-2026 school year! We encourage everyone to register as soon as possible so we can plan staff needs for the upcoming year. Being a small district makes it extra important that we get all our students registered and accounted for so we can plan as needed.
Along with the end of the trimester comes a second round of truancy notifications. If your student has missed 10% or more of the school year you will be receiving a notice about attendance. If you get a letter and need assistance getting your child to school, please reach out. We are here to help in any way we can! If you are receiving a second letter for the school year, we do stipulate that any absences moving forward will require a doctor's note to be marked as excused.
Our annual Erin's Law compliance presentation will be taking place this year on March 14th. See below to learn more about Erin's Law and if you would NOT like your child to participate, you can complete the opt out form linked.
*Note AM preschool students will have their Erin's Law presentation on Monday, March 17th.*
And finally, next week is Read Across America Week! We will be doing lots of fun reading activities at school and celebrating with a spirit week! See the flyer below for the daily themes. Note that Spring picture day is next Wednesday for "Fancy Day." See the remaining themes below.
And as a reminder, Mrs. Scanlan is back on Tuesdays and Thursdays and Mr. Hanus continues to be our building Principal onsite on Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Reach out to either of us with your questions or concerns.
Have a great weekend,
-Mrs. Scanlan and Mr. Hanus

Erin's Law Presentation
Dear Parents:
Erin’s Law, House Bill 6193 was signed by Governor Pat Quinn on January 24, 2013. This law requires schools to implement an age-appropriate sexual assault and abuse awareness and prevention curriculum for grades pre-K through 12. It is recommended that four communications a year on Erin’s Law be made available to all students, often through social-emotional instruction and/or contact with the school social worker.
Victor Pacini, a survivor of sexual abuse, author, and motivational speaker, will be assisting our schools in implementing this mandate. Mr. Pacini’s program is developmentally appropriate, interactive, and aligned with learning standards. The focus of his presentation is to teach children basic skills to keep them safe from dangerous or abusive situations. The concepts that will be discussed are:
• Distinguishing safe from unsafe touches
• Safety rules at home and school
• Saying “NO”
• Safe/Unsafe Secrets
• It’s not the child’s fault if someone touches him or her
• Telling a trusted adult
Mr. Pacini and his colleague, Deanna Hynes, will be presenting at our schools on Friday, March 14th. Each grade level will participate in an assembly for approximately 30 minutes. The content can be previewed here: https://www.victorpacini.com/peace-of-mind-2/
*Note - The AM Preschool presentation will be done by our social worker on Monday, March 17th.*
If you have any questions please contact your building principal or our school social worker, Ms. Ketzally Gomez, at: kgomez@saltcreek48.org

Standard Response Protocol
Salt Creek District 48 has adopted an emergency protocol response from the I Love U Guys Foundation. This is a program that has been adopted by many of the schools within DuPage County. Over the summer, the administrative team attended training on the protocol and is passing along the training to all staff. We also want to make families aware of the five different protocols so you can be familiar with the language you may hear your child or the school use.
Payments & Fees
In your parent portal in skyward, click on the fee payment tile, then in the far right hand top corner click on the "make online payments" button. This will take you to Revtrak. Make sure to sign up before you try to make payment. Once you can sign in, click the Make a Payment button in the middle of the page. This new service will streamline the payments so you can make a payment or set up recurring payments. This is directly connected to Skyward so you see the money immediately go to your child's account. If you have any questions please email or call your school office.
Preschool Payments: Once in Revtrak you will see in the upper right area an arrow next to SHOP. Click the arrow and pick Preschool in order for you to complete your payment. If you have any questions please email or call the Salt Creek school office.
