CANNED FOOD DRIVE

Our school will be celebrating kindness all month. As part of this month's events, will be be collecting canned food for the Boise Salvation Army. Please dig deep this year and give from the heart! There will be a class competition with a prize for the class that brings in the most canned food.

Some of the preferred and needed items are:

• Peanut butter, canned items that include proteins, fruits, vegetables, and macaroni and cheese...
• Baking items such as flour, sugar, salt, pepper...
• Lunch type items for cold lunches for the students who are learning at home
• Check expiration dates, as they will not accept expired food

KINDNESS BINGO BOARD

We have another fun option for students this month--a game of Kindness Bingo! Your child has a hard copy of this in their Friday Folder. (However, if your child did not get one, has lost it, or wants to share this idea with another sibling or friend, there is a PDF below for you to print at home. This is not required, but students who complete their BINGO sheets will be able to turn those in to display on our Random Acts of Kindness board. Students may turn in their completed boards to their teacher. And if students want to challenge themselves and go for a BLACK OUT, we will announce their name the day it is turned into the office!!

WRITTEN IN THE HEART (A school building activity)

Students and staff will have an opportunity to recognize others with positive notes of affirmation or recognition of random acts of kindness. These will be posted around the door frames of the classroom. As those areas fill, we will post additional hearts around the windows in the office area and gym.

Parents, if you want to get in the act, please feel free to cut out your own heart, fill it out, and send it in. We are looking forward to filling the halls of this building with love.

Congratulations to the first February group of students who had their Pronghorn Pride Ticket drawn today. These students were caught either modeling a school-wide expectation or showing ownership for their learning. Way to be #PronghornStrong!

The COVID-19 interactive tool allows students and staff to report positive cases, track symptoms, and seek guidance. You will go to the appropriate school website and click the button on the left hand side. Please select your school in the list below to fill out the appropriate form for each individual.

Nurse Carrie will then uses this form each day to gather some basic information and prepare to call parents.

If you or your child has any symptoms, please keep your child home and complete the form. You may call the front office at 350-4490 to report the absence, or please feel free to email davis.judy@westada.org at any time. Nurse Carrie will then follow up with you within 24-48 hours. If you are simply needing to follow up with our nurse regarding a discussion already held, please send an email to allumbaugh.carrie@westada.org. She will then follow up as time allows.

Thank you for helping us work through this system. This will allow our nurse to also care for students with other medical needs.

Semester 1 grades should now be finalized in PowerSchool. Report cards will not be activated for printing out of PowerSchool until the end of the school year. However, you can see how your child is currently performing. For those new to West Ada, just a reminder that we use standards-based grading with a 3 meaning your child is proficient. Please keep in mind that we continue to assess toward the end of the year proficiency scale.

It is time for the annual District Art Show artwork projects to start. This year's theme is “Art as Escape”

Artwork and artist statements must reflect the theme to be considered for additional community awards. If your child is interests in participating, please see the attached documents. All entries must be received to the front office by March 1. Only ONE piece of art will be sent to the district office for the art show. All other pieces submitted will be displayed at the building.

*The art show awards reception is tentatively set for Thursday, April 22rd. As we get closer to that date in the spring, we will determine if it will be an in-person or virtual event depending on the current Covid-19 situation.

As the year continues to progress, please make sure your child has the supplies needed. Teachers have been asked to request individual supplies for students who may be out of the materials required for school. The only supplies the teachers may request are the items from the school supply list. If your child is low or out of a needed supply and there is a hardship in your family, please contact our school counselor, Shirlynn Maddox.

We are seeing a large influx of tardies and would like your help to make sure students are at school and in their seat by 9:10 am. If your child is eating breakfast in the am, please be sure to get your child here by 8:45 am to allow for plenty of time to eat. All students are expected to be in the classroom by 9:10 am, and the kitchen closes to transition to make lunch at this time.

Also, if your child has an appointment during school hours, please be sure to get an appointment slip. Those slips should be summited to the office to change the attendance code and waive the absence or tardy.

Parents, I know you have not been to the building for activities this year, but if you happen to have an amazing picture from the school, an event, or even of your child working at home during remote learning time and you would like to share it with our Yearbook Committee, we would appreciate those pictures.
