Principal's Ponderings
A second grade student recently asked me, “What do you all do on Monday when students weren't here?” It’s a great question, and I wanted to share some insight into how we use this time and other team-time to benefit our school community.
On these days, our staff engages in a variety of activities focused on growth and development. We align our work with district initiatives to ensure we’re meeting the needs of all students. We also use Adaptive Schools techniques to strengthen our collaboration and teamwork, setting and refining goals within each grade span with a focus on student success and continuous improvement.
We also spend time discussing curriculum and pedagogy to ensure we’re implementing best practices in the classroom. In addition, we develop ideas aligned with our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework to maintain a positive and inclusive school culture. Enhancing our understanding of Response to Intervention (RTI) strategies is another key area of focus, helping us better support students who need additional support in learning or with behaviors.
These days are also an opportunity for us to celebrate our wins and successes as a campus, acknowledging the hard work and dedication of our LEDs and staff. We also share recent educational experiences (like South by South West and PLTW Conference) and research with one another, staying on the cutting edge of what school can be.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we work to do school differently.

Monster Mash Reminder
It's that time of year again where I remind you that there's no evidence in the text that the song Monster Mash takes place on Halloween. It's just a fun party for monsters that could be in April for all we know. Also, you’ve never heard the actual Monster Mash. You've just heard a record “about” the Monster Mash. Bobby Pickett, the singer, is a non-monster recalling an occasion when he heard monsters mashing. At best, his recording is only a rough approximation.

Mr. Bibby's Tip of the Week The Power of Studying in Teams
Studying in teams can be a game-changer when it comes to understanding complex topics and preparing for assessments. Here’s why and how you can make the most of collaborative study sessions:
- Share Knowledge and Perspectives: Each member brings unique insights and understanding, which can help clarify difficult concepts and provide new ways of thinking.
- Fill in Learning Gaps: By explaining concepts to others or listening to their explanations, you can reinforce your own learning and discover gaps in your knowledge.
- Stay Motivated and Accountable: Group study sessions provide structure and encourage you to stay focused. When everyone contributes, it creates a sense of accountability.
- Use Effective Strategies: Try dividing topics among group members for deeper dives, create shared study guides, or quiz each other using flashcards or practice questions

What's Up With Poway Unified?
PUSD Substitutes Needed: With flu, cold, and COVID season upon us, we are once again in need of qualified substitutes to support PUSD and our campus in the event of an LED absence.
If you or someone you know are interested in applying to become a substitute teacher with Poway Unified School District, please click here.
Food and Nutrition Updates and Reminders: School breakfast and school lunch are FREE for all enrolled students, every school day. Meals must still be entered into the cafeteria computer by individual student account.
Even though meals are free, families are still highly encouraged to complete the application for free and reduced-price meal eligibility. School site funding depends in part on the number of students eligible for free/reduced-price meals. Families that qualify for free/reduced-price meals may qualify for other benefits, as well. The meal application is available online at MySchoolApps.com.
Printer-friendly PDF menus are available on the PUSD Food and Nutrition webpage. At the top of the page, click or hover over School Menus + and then Printable PDF Menus.
Interactive, web-based menus containing nutrient and allergen details are available at MySchoolMenus.com, as well as via links from the F&N webpage.
