Curtis Chronicles
August 12, 2024
Welcome from Curtis Principal, Sonya Pitcock
Cougar families,
It’s been great having your children back at school with us! We’ve had a great start and are looking forward to a great year! Students will start getting a few supply lists from teachers to ensure they have what they need at school for each class. Be looking for that teacher communication home as well. Our students will be learning to be independent throughout this year, but our teachers will communicate with you too, just to make sure you have the information to support your child.
Please be sure to take a look at everything in our newsletters so you don’t miss out on deadlines, events and opportunities. We usually have lots of things going on and try to get that information out to you as soon as we can. Our first fun event will be for our kids to do a scavenger hunt during the day looking for information about 1994 (the year our school opened) AND finding some printing mistakes on the store bought posters about 1994. We want our kids to put those editing and proofreading skills into action and see that those are skills they will use throughout life.
We will begin distributing chromebooks to students who have paid the insurance fee this week. Students who have not paid will not get their device. Please be sure to get that taken care of.
We look forward to a great year with your kids! Please be sure to reach out to us any time you have questions, concerns or need support in any way. We are here to work with you to have a successful year.
Take care,
Sonya Pitcock

Technology Insurance Information:
The device Insurance fee is essential as it covers potential repairs and accidental damages to the Chromebook throughout the school year, ensuring the students can use these valuable tools without interruption. The Device Insurance Fee is $30 a year, with reduced rates for Free and Reduced ($15) and McKinney Vento ($0). For additional information feel free to access the Empower 1:1 website.
To ensure your child receives their Chromebook please arrange for the payment of the Device Insurance Fee through SchoolPay. Chromebooks will be distributed as Device Insurance fees are received in the system. We will not distribute a device to a student until they have paid the fee. Here is the link to pay the fee.

The structure of Allen ISD Leadership Academy is a full day, once-a-month workshop for seven months. Participants will tour campuses, hear from principals, interact with students via Q&A panels, and meet School Board members. District administrators will provide presentations about their departments and how they work to support the overall goals of Allen ISD. The cohort will also be tasked with completing a specific volunteer project to support Allen ISD.
The goal of the program is to engage with our community and provide educational resources about the operations of running a school district with 21,000 students and nearly 3,000 employees.
