Pursuant to Education Code Section 17388, before excess real estate property is sold or leased, the Governing Board of a school district must appoint an Advisory Committee to advise the Governing Board on the disposition of the property. Education Code Section 17389 requires that the Advisory Committee be composed of not less than seven (7) and no more than eleven (11) members. This commonly is called a Surplus Property “7-11” Committee. The Committee will review the use(s) of the Property, consider community input on acceptable uses, and forward its recommendations to the Governing Board. The Governing Board will then consider the Committee’s recommendations and decide what to do with the Property.
Community members, Parents/Guardians of students, and CVUSD teachers/administrators are sought to serve on this Committee, which will be reviewing the following properties:
- Triunfo School – 975 Evenstar Ave, Westlake Village CA 91361
- 703 Rancho Conejo Road, Newbury Park CA 91320
- 711 Rancho Conejo Road, Newbury Park CA 91320
The deadline to apply to serve on this Committee is Friday, December 20th at 12pm.

This project aims to introduce 4th and 5th grade Westlake Elementary students to high-demand career fields - such as Education, through a mentorship program with secondary students enrolled in the Westlake High School Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways programs. Westlake High School students will act as role models as they mentor 4th and 5th graders, guiding them through career-related projects and sharing insights into different professions. Additional activities made possible through this grant funding include:
- Joint Learning Sessions (Elementary and high school students will collaborate on career exploration activities)
- Industry Professionals as Guest Speakers
- Industry Visits
- College and Career Days
- Career Pathway Projects
- Career Exploration Curriculum
This grant is a great example of our CVUSD schools collaborating and innovating, together, for the mutual benefit of the students we proudly serve. The hope is that in year three, this program will add grade 3 students, and ultimately wrap in the lower grades in the future.

Congrats, WHS Senior James: 1st Alternate for the 2025 U.S. Senate Youth Program
Congratulations to James Miller, Westlake High School 12th grade scholar, who was selected by the California Department of Education as the First Alternate for the California High School Student Representatives for the 2025 United States Senate Youth Program, a highly competitive program. This program provides a yearly opportunity for students to gain an in-depth view of the U.S. Senate and the federal government overall, as well as a deeper understanding of legislative, judicial and executive branches.
James is scheduled to be recognized by the State Board of Education during its January 15-16, 2025, meeting in Sacramento.

On Thursday, December 5th, the students in Ms. Collins' first grade class were gifted copies of their co-created books, including a story reveal - as each pairing of students read their books together. This was a first of its kind partnership between CLU and Cypress Elementary School, who as an IB school, has one of its goals to collaborate with the community. Watch the video below to see the special book reveal moments and to learn more.
