MESSAGE FROM THE CCS ADMINISTRATION
Good Afternoon CCS Caregivers and Charlotte Residents,
Our primary intentions this week were to make connections and develop routines across all of our school settings. Connections are being made through social-emotional learning activities, conversations, team-building and opportunities for exploration and collaboration. Teachers and students are developing routines and expectations for learning, play times and transitions. Students are beginning to make sense of what they will do as readers, writers, mathematicians, and most importantly, what they will do as members of this community to take care of themselves, each other and our school.
We have taken every opportunity to soak up every aspect of the collaborative environment that makes Charlotte Central School such a magical, special place where all students and staff flourish. We are inspired by the work that is taking place here at CCS to guide all students to become engaged, creative, mindful, curious learners and members of this community. Throughout the year, we will capture special moments in the photo exploration of This Week at CCS.
Have a safe and restful 3 day weekend!
Jen Roth, CCS Principal
Tim O’Leary, CCS Assistant Principal
Beth Slater, CCS Director of Student Services

SCHOOL SAFETY IN OUR BROADER COMMUNITY
The safety procedures Charlotte Central School follows align with guidance from the VT Agency of Education (AOE) and Vermont statute and CVSD. Our September Fire Drill and Run Hide Fight Practice are framed to educate and support staff and students with steps that are developmentally appropriate and emotionally safe. CCS relies on a team of educators and community members on our School Safety Team. We collaborate with emergency responders who are knowledgeable of a full scope of emergencies to help CCS plan and train. Our internal safety meetings are a chance for us to align our collective understanding of the emergency response so there is coordination and cohesion between school officials and first responders, if the need were to arise. If you are a member of our Charlotte Community who works in law enforcement, is an EMT, firefighter or other first responder who is interested in joining our team, please reach out to Jen (jroth@cvsdvt.org) and get on our communication list.
BUS ROUTES & RELATED INFORMATION
Any bus route questions should be directed to CVSD’s Transportation Supervisor, Barry Russell. He can be reached by email or phone: brussell@cvsdvt.org, 802-482-7120.
It is essential that your child’s transportation plan be communicated to classroom teachers. As of now, any changes to the schedule should NOT be entered into the PoweSchool Annual Transportation Form. Please provide any changes to the classroom teacher and Cindy LaWare in the main office. Please refer to the CCS handbook for more information.

MUSIC NEWS
The Band Program is up and running and we are looking forward to an amazing year of music!
If you need to obtain an instrument, we work with two outstanding music companies. We have a long standing and positive relationship with Ellis Music Company, Bethel, VT www.ellismusic.com and our local store Music and Arts, Burlington, VT www.musicandarts.com. Both companies visit our school regularly and provide outstanding service. Both Ellis Music & Music and Arts provide rental instruments. Please check out the details of their respective rental agreements online.
Feel free to reach out with any questions at asmith@cvsdvt.org.
Thank you!
CHARLOTTE CENTRAL SCHOOL 5-8 MUSIC HANDBOOK
Dear CCS Students and Parents,
Welcome back to school for the 2024- 2025 school year! This handbook has been prepared to provide you with information about the music program at CCS. Please read it carefully. A full copy will be available on the CCS music web page.
By selecting band and/or chorus, you have become a member of a musical family and have joined the tradition of musical excellence at CCS. You will find yourself challenged on many levels – intellectually, emotionally, physically, and musically as you strive to recreate works of art.
Students who are entering the performing groups at CCS for the first time should be aware that being a member of the band or chorus is different from being in any other class. Many of the students who become involved in the band and choral program remain for their entire school careers, primarily because it is like being part of an extended family. There is a special bond that is created among people who make music together.
We encourage you to email us or leave a voice message if you need to contact us in any way.
Thank you for your support this year!
Sincerely,
Andy Smith and Chris Gribnau

GREEN MOUNTAIN AVIATION FIELD DAYS
We wanted to make sure you knew about a great STEM event coming up in the next few weeks- please see below:
The Vermont Aviators Association (VAA) is happy to announce our first Green Mountain Aviation Field Days will take place 14-15 Sept 2024. We believe this will be the largest aviation and STEM event in Vermont in over 30 years! This community event will feel more like a State Fair / Open House / Touch a Truck event than an airshow. Our theme will focus on the "Past, Present, and Future of Aviation'' with a heavy emphasis on education and STEM highlighting some of the wonderful opportunities available to kids, and adults, here in VT.
We currently have ~47 aircraft confirmed for our static displays, a 20,000 sq/ft Hanger to house our STEM exhibits, flight simulators, Radio Controlled races, numerous DoD, Airport and Local vehicles for "touch-a-truck" displays, 11 Food trucks, and five bands playing throughout the weekend. EAA Chapter 613 will host a Young Eagles Event in conjunction with our Field Days providing FREE discovery flights to children from 7 to 17 year old's providing them an opportunity to experience the thrill of flight in a small aircraft.
More info and tickets can be found at our Green Mountain Aviation Field Days website. Children 12 and under are free."
