The Buzz
Autumn Term - 16th November 2023
Message from the Executive Headteacher
Dear Parents/Carers
Another busy week here at HJS and reading down this edition of The Buzz I can see how much the children of HJS enjoy a challenge! Reading, writing, mathematics and computing are all being done and these challenges are all completed in their spare time; well done and keep it up! They are available on the website if you want your child to get involved.
I was pleased to see so many of you at the fantastic firework event. Huge thanks of course to the FoHJS for pulling it all together and for the tidy up afterwards. It was a wonderful show and the weather even managed to stay dry.
A small group of HPP pupils joined other local school children and represented the schools at the Hampton Remembrance Parade last Sunday. Thank you to them and also to Mr James and Mrs Cook who led the school commemorations during the assemblies last week.
Year 6 and Year 3 pupils have been busy outside this week and impressively have continued despite the rain. The year 6 pupils have been completing their cycling proficiency and the year 3 pupils have been completing their safer walking training. I've seen them out and about in the local area and have been very pleased to see them showing fantastic behaviour and listening carefully to their instructors.
I hope you have all received our very festive "What's Happening at Christmas". It looks like it will be a busy December but of course we will continue to prioritise the learning whilst having a lot of fun.
Ms H Lockey

HJS Music Achievements
Congratulations to Norah Bowditch for achieving a grade 1 distinction in her clarinet exam.
Mrs Morrison has space for one more clarinet student. An instrument is available for hire and a free trial is available. For pupils taking up the clarinet fees start at £12 per lesson. Year 4 is a particularly good time to start but anyone may apply.
Year 4 News
Today 4B performed 4 pieces as part of their brass concert. They all did really well and enjoyed it immensely.
Year 5 News
5C really enjoyed their visit to Hampton Library.
Book Club
Year 5 enjoyed their first book club today which focused on the novel Boy at the Back of the Class. The children discussed their favourite moment in the book, what they would change and predicted what they think might happen next.
Year 6 News
Year 6 have made an excellent start to cycling and proficiency- Tia and Olivia were looking forward to going out on the roads with the instructors.
