September in Second Grade
Welcome to Mrs. Kizee's Class
Great Expectations!
Families! Welcome to a new school year! I am Mrs. Kizee and I am delighted to have your children in my classroom this year. Each of them will individually make our classroom a unique learning community. I am so excited to get to know your children and help them both set and achieve goals as they grow over the course of the school year! Over the month of September we will be building the foundation of our learning community. This is an exciting time of the year! Be proud of your children and get ready for an exciting year of second grade! We will also be gathering data about reading, writing, math, and spelling over the next two weeks to benchmark student levels. This year we will be inviting families into our learning community to celebrate our writing, assist with research projects, as well as surprise our class as “Mystery Reader”! I can't wait to meet you! Please feel free to contact me at any time!

Families, I would like to partner with you and set a goal to work together to create a literacy rich environment for our children. I feel strongly that having open communication between school and home attributes to the success of our children! The first thing you can do is continue to encourage your children to read. You may hear your children say that we will be working daily to increase our reading stamina! This is so important! Encourage your children to read independently, to a sibling, to you! I will be developing a classroom reading incentive and establish individual literacy goals. Reading is so important in our classroom that I have dedicated a large area of our classroom to a leveled library. In the classroom library students will be able to select books by genre, level, as well as interest. Creating an attractive and diverse library is proven to increase student interest!
