A Message To Families From Mr. Peck
Riverview Families,
Last Friday, when your children were home from school, our teachers were engaged in a day of professional learning for themselves. As part of the Minnesota Read Act, our teachers are undergoing over 60 hours of professional development in the area of reading instruction throughout this school year. Working alongside facilitators from the University of Minnesota, we are learning so much about how reading development works, how to deliver more impactful instruction, and how to quickly intervene if a student is behind. We know that in order to be the best teachers we can be, that we have to consistently be learners ourselves. We are taking it very seriously because we know that the people who will benefit the most from our learning are our students! There will be a couple more of these professional development days in the months ahead which is why the school calendar looks a little different than normal.
Also, please remember that it is a short week this week. There is no school on Thursday, Oct. 17 and Friday, Oct. 18 due to MEA break. I sincerely hope you and your family can use this time to do things that provide joy to your lives. Whether it is spending time with loved ones, enjoying the beautiful fall weather, getting a little extra sleep, or traveling to see new things I wish you and your family a safe and peaceful MEA break!
Best wishes for a great week!
Shawn Peck
Principal

RVES Reaches Half-Way Mark To Goal; Gets To Tape Mr. Tom To The Wall!
Riverview Heroes Presents: Special Education Teacher, Ms. Alysha Nelson!
Parents/Guardians of Kindergarten Learners Are Invited To Our "Alphabet Parade"!
Our kindergarten learners have been busy learning their letters as they build the foundational skills they need to be strong readers. To celebrate the acievement of learning these letters, we will be holding an "alphabet parade" in which our kindergarten teachers and students will march through the hallways as our other staff and student body cheer them along. Parents, guardians, and special family members of our kindergarten learners are invited to be a part of it. We will get started at 9:00 on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
No School on Thursday & Friday This Week (Oct. 17 & 18) Due to MEA Break
Donations From 40 Different States Means Ms. Olson Will Dye Her Hair!!
Help Us Meet Our CARES Fun Run Fundraising Goal! REGISTER YOUR CHILD & SHARE!!
As of 4:00 on Sunday, Oct. 13, our school has raised $25,555 for our CARES Fun Run Fundraiser. Thank you to every person in our Riverview community for this amazing support. Here are some other facts and figures:
- 76% of our learners have registered online, which is great. But we want to get everyone involved! If you haven't already, click here and get registered! (School Identifier: 630cf7ad5ca17). If you need any help getting registered or sharing the link, please reach out to your child's teacher. They can help!
- We have several students who have registered but have not shared the link with anyone. You can text it, email it, or post it to social media. I have had so many people tell me that they want to support our school so invite them to do so via this fundraiser! If you haven't already, think about what friends, neighbors, or family members might be willing to donate and help impact our school in a positive way.
- Ms. Foster's 1st grade classroom is currently leading the way with over $1800 raised just by those students! Ms. Schulz/Ms. Bakken's class is in 2nd place, Ms. Huppert's is in 3rd, Ms. Claycomb is in 4th, and Ms. Eschle is in 5th.
We have already met our halfway goal and taped Mr. Tom to the wall. Our next school-wide incentive kicks in when we reach $32,000 and a group of Riverview teachers & staff members will actually pitch tents and camp on the roof of the school! And if we go WAY beyond our goal, we even set a "pie-in-the-sky" goal of $38,000. If we reach that amount, Mr. Peck will wear Vikings gear while he gets pied in the face with purple pies! Keep REGISTERING and SHARING to make it happen!
What do we use the money for?
All money raised goes right back into our school to create learning experiences for our students and to provide them with the resources they need to be successful in school and in life. Some examples of things that Fun Run money have supported:

- Our annual African drumming residency
- Field trips, which provide memorable learning experiences
- STEM/Maker Space supplies

Help Us Keep Oct. 31 a Day of Learning; No Costumes at School Please
For several years now, Riverview has asked for parent cooperation in making sure that Halloween remains a day of structure, routine, and learning at school. We kindly ask that students leave all costumes, face paint, masks, etc. at home that day and wait until they get home to begin the Halloween festivities.

Yearbooks For 24-25 Are Now Available To Order From Jostens
Yearbooks for the 24-25 school year are now available to order from Jostens. They are $16 plus tax and you will be able to order anytime up until March 10. Click the link below to order (and be sure to know your child's classroom teacher while ordering).
We Need Your Help! We Are In Need of More Paraprofessional Substitutes!
Our paraprofessionals are a vital part of our team and they do so much every day for our students. Like everyone, they have to miss work from time to time due to illness, family matters, etc. When that happens, it leaves our learners with less support. And unfortunately, often times these absences go "unfilled" due to a shortage of capable and willing subs. That is why we are asking for people in our Riverview community to consider being a para sub. The pay is $15 per hour and you can work as much (or as little) as you want. Whether you sub one day or every day, each time you enter a classroom, you are responsible for the helping the most important resource we have in our school -- our children.
If you would like to sign up to sub as a teacher or paraprofessional for the Farmington Schools you will have to apply through Teachers on Call (TOC). Please email or call TOC directly at 1800-713-4439 or apply online at teachersoncall.com.
Consider Joining PIE (Parents in Education); Volunteer To Help RVES Staff
The purpose of PIE (Parents in Education) is for volunteer parents to be an extra set of hands for Riverview staff to hopefully alleviate some of their busy work and allow them more time to focus on teaching and their students. Some PIE tasks that are common include cutting, laminating, sharpening pencils, dye cutting, book binding, and organization. This group of parent volunteers meets every Wednesday morning in the PTP room at Riverview and are typically there from 9-11:30. It's a little bit of work but a lot of fun with a great group of people. Come when you can. If you’d like to give PIE a try, feel free to reach out to Lynn Heidbrink at lynnheidbrink@gmail.com.
