Points from the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As the trimester ends, I want to take a moment to recognize the hard work and dedication of our students, and staff. Everyone has worked diligently and it is shown in their achievements.
With final exams wrapping up and grades being finalized, I encourage you to check in with your student about their progress and celebrate their accomplishments. Report cards will be available soon, and we are always here to support students in setting goals for continued success.
As we head into the final trimester, we look forward to new opportunities for learning, extracurricular involvement, and personal growth. Have a great weekend!
Mrs. Atkins
A Note from Ms. Hanson
Dear Seniors,
Once again, we are honoring and highlighting each and every senior from the graduating class of 2025. Each school day, two seniors will be highlighted on the Swan Valley School Districts FB page and on our Live Feed on the website. The first senior is highlighted at 7:00 am and the second senior is highlighted at 11:00 am. Seniors are picked at random. Be sure to get your senior picture submitted to your yearbook class if you haven’t turned it in already. I hope you enjoy being celebrated!
Have a great week!
Ms. Hanson

Words from a Cop
Every year I talk about integrity. Integrity is doing the right thing while no one is watching. Integrity is one of the core values in being a police officer, but it should be a core value that everyone believes in. Telling your coach that you worked out during the offseason, but you actually did not, is not having integrity. Telling your boss, or co-worker, that the paperwork is done when in fact you haven’t started it, again not integrity.
Being responsible for your actions is integrity. Own your mistakes and make a quality effort to make sure it does not happen again. As a police officer, you can only imagine the number of people that I have encountered that have said “I was not speeding”, when in fact they were, or how many times I have heard “that’s not mine”, or the number of people that I have seen blatantly ignore street signs.
Imagine if we all had more integrity. Even the slightest bit would make a difference. No one is perfect, but we all can do a better job striving for it, myself included. Hold yourself accountable. Just because the person next to you does it, does not mean you should do it too.
Stay safe, stay vigilant

Change Your Clock- Change Your Battery
Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery” is a campaign that encourages people to change the batteries in their smoke alarms when they change their clocks. This is done to help ensure that smoke alarms are working and ready to provide an early warning in case of a fire.
Saturday, March 8th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm Thomas Township Fire Department will be partnering with Eudici's Pizza offering residents the chance to receive FREE PIZZA. If Thomas Township Fire Fighters show up with your pizza order and you have a working smoke detector properly installed in your home, they will buy your pizza. For houses that they visit without a working smoke detector, one will be provided free of charge courtesy of your Thomas Township Fire Department.

The Lionheart Experience Community Concert
This Fall, we had the opportunity to bring a truly inspirational program to the students and community here at Swan Valley. Headed by award-winning educator and speaker, Joe Vercellino and his dynamic team of performing Artists – The Lion Heart Experience brought us a message of self-worth, the value of community, mental health and how the words we speak to ourselves and to others matter.
We are bringing The Lionheart crew back to Swan Valley on March 10th for another message of hope, inspiration and connection. This time, we have the unique honor of including our very own Havens Elementary Choir to the performance. These students will get the chance to sing with the Lionheart Experience during the morning performances for our Elementary schools and will be featured during the Free Community Concert that evening!
We will send more information out as the date gets closer, but for now, mark your calendars:

Notes from the Nurse.....
Already this season, we are seeing an increase in pneumonia cases.
Pneumonia is a respiratory infection in which the air sacs in the lungs become inflamed and filled with fluid or pus, making it difficult and painful to breathe. It can be caused by a bacteria, virus, or fungus. Pneumonia is often the consequence of a COVID or influenza infection. It is spread through respiratory droplets in the air or from touching contaminated services and then touching our faces (nose, mouth, eyes), similar to the way other respiratory infections are spread. Symptoms include fever, dry cough, headaches, body aches and weakness. However, instead of feeling better within a few days, symptoms worsen and may include chest pain, shortness of breath, a rapid heart rate, shaking/chills and/or a blueish tint to the lips and nailbeds. Pneumonia can be diagnosed per chest xray, sputum sample or blood cultures. Treatment includes antibiotics (for pneumonia caused by bacteria), bronchodilators (to help ease breathing), fluids and LOTS OF REST!! A person with pneumonia may remain contagious for up to 48 hours after starting an antibiotic and fever has stopped, and it may take from one week to one month before full recovery. Untreated pneumonia can lead to a lung abscess, sepsis and ultimately respiratory failure. Some of the infections that can lead to pneumonia can be prevented with vaccines. These include the flu vaccine, the pneumococcal vaccines, and the COVID vaccine. Meticulous hand washing, cough etiquette and immunizations are the best public health measures we can take to keep ourselves and those around us healthy this season!

In order to reach more students, the READ Association would like to continue this during the summer and the Thomas Township Library has agreed to be a host. This program would be a good match for Swan Valley students. The meetings would be one hour per week.
