Huskies Have HEART Newsletter
September 8, 2024
Greetings Central Heights Students and Families,
Monday, September 9th is an A-day! Remember, we have school picture day on Wednesday 9/11. We had a great first week at Central Heights. The first week of school is a lot of logistics and learning routines. You can help us reinforce this by working on Huskies Have HEART with your student. By now, they should be able to tell you a brief summary of HEART and what it stands for. They should also be able to tell you that our school motto this year is Every Second Counts! You can help us reinforce this by talking with your student(s) about using every second wisely when at school (and home!). We had a fun assembly on Friday where our staff participated in a relay of events to compete against each other and the clock. Our Elective teachers proved that #EverySecondCounts by completing the relay the fastest!
Thank you for taking the time to read our newsletter! If there is anything you would like to see in our newsletter or questions you have about school that may help other families learn more about school, please reach out and ask!
Communication on Upcoming Benchmark Assessments
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
At the Sun Prairie Area School District, all students 5K-8th and at Prairie Phoenix complete universal screening assessments in reading and math in the fall, winter, and spring. These assessments provide information on how students are performing in these areas academically. Educators use them to reflect on overall instructional practices as well as recognize students that may benefit from additional layers of academic support within their educational experience. Please note that these are one data source and that other indicators such as educator observations, classroom performance, and progress are all considered in making responsive decisions about student academic needs.
For students in 4th grades and on, the assessments are delivered in a computer-based format. The computer-based assessments are adaptive and help meet all students where they are at. They will take approximately 30 minutes for each of the reading and math computer-based assessments. The measures used are aligned with grade-level standards and with what we know about how students learn to extend and apply their reading and numeracy skills.
At this time, we wanted to provide you some background information on the upcoming universal screening assessments and let you know that you will receive information on your child’s academic performance once we obtain results, at Parent/Caregiver Conferences, as well as at other times during the school year.
Sincerely,
Sun Prairie Area School District Educators
After School Activity Bus:
As we begin to advertise clubs and activities in the upcoming weeks, please remember that we have an activity bus Monday-Thursday. In order to ride the activity bus, students need to be regular bus riders AND they must have their bus tag with them. The bus leaves at approximately 4:50 from the front of the building. We will have two buses, one goes towards the west and one goes towards the east.
