Your Words and Actions Matter – Help Keep Our Schools Safe
McKinney ISD strives to provide a safe and secure environment for our students, staff and community. All threats and all reports of suspicious activity are thoroughly investigated by our Safety & Security department, in conjunction with the McKinney Police Department. Unfortunately, false reports of violence to schools are trending, and in an effort to impede this kind of illegal behavior, we want everyone to understand the consequences of saying or making a fake threats.
This follow up video to MISD's video- Your Words & Actions Matter- provides information on the threat assessment process and support provided at Wilmeth Elementary.

MISD Superintendent Shawn Pratt and Frisco ISD Superintendent Dr. Mike Waldrip are calling on their respective school districts to pull out all the stops to help make this the most successful year ever for Toys for Tots in North Texas as the two superintendents entered into a friendly competition Thursday to see which school district can bring in the most toys. Waldrip issued the challenge—which Pratt and Board Secretary Harvey Oaxaca accepted—during the Toys for Tots kick off event in Frisco on Thursday. October is recognized worldwide as Dyslexia Awareness Month, a time to come together to raise awareness, share resources, and tell stories about dyslexia successes. Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that is neurological in origin. It is characterized by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition, decoding abilities, and poor spelling. Click on this video link for more information on Dyslexia: https://youtu.be/zafiGBrFkRM
Did you know:
- 1 in 5 people are Dyslexic~that’s 20% of our population. It is the most common of all neurocognitive disorders.
- Dyslexia ranges from mild to severe and those with dyslexia use about 5 times more energy to complete mental tasks.
- Dyslexia is hereditary. Children have a 50% chance of having dyslexia if one parent has it.
- Most dyslexics are creative thinkers & have an average, above-average, or highly gifted IQ.
- Over 50% of NASA employees are Dyslexic. This population is deliberately sought after because they have superb problem-solving skills and excellent 3D/spatial awareness.
