Library support may have a different look to it, but we are still going strong, working behind the scenes to ensure teachers and students have the resources they need to be successful in our digital world.


This edition of Beecher Feature will serve as a reminder of eLearning resources and highlight just a few activities in the DC media center from August - November.

New Service: DCHS Media Center Pick Up and Return During COVID Shut Down

Need a book while away from school? We can help!

Students who attend DCHS and DTSE may....

  • Return a library book to DCHS MC
  • Check out a library book from DCHS MC*
  • Pick up a hold from another branch at DCHS MC


When and Where:


  • Days: Tuesdays and Thursdays (only)
  • Times: 10:00am - 11:00am and 1:00pm - 2:00pm
  • Location: Inside door #1



*REQUIRED: Schedule an appointment here and the MC staff will have your items bagged and waiting for you at door #1 at the scheduled time.

The MC staff will be here all day every day, so teachers - business as usual...no form needed for you.

Being a Shared System partner with Indy Public Library has many perks - and this is a big one. Use the online catalog to find a new great read in nearly any format. Use your library card to place a hold and have it sent to DCHS library for pick up!

eBooks and audio books are waiting for you here! Download the convenient app, and identify Decatur Central High School as your library. Add your library card number and you're are ready to go! The platform also allows for annotating in the ebooks!

The Gale online databases are user friendly and reliable. We highly encourage our learners (of all ages) to use quality resources for research. Library cards needed!

Indiana eLearning Lab
The eLearning Lab is a personalized microlearning platform full of easily accessible eLearning resources and lesson ideas that are grounded in solid instructional pedagogy.
Streaming Services with IndyPL
In addition to Axis 360, you'll find more gems like Tumble Books, Hoopla, Kanopy, and Libby. Your library card is a magical thing. Use it for good. Tell a friend.

Your DCHS Media Center During COVID Times

Services may look differently, but we still find ways to provide students with safe, comfortable, engaging, and educational activities while they are here. Check out a few scenes below. We miss our full house from previous years, but knowing the students can still come to their school library, safely, and engage in learning in a variety of ways is such a blessing!

What fun it was to put together an activity that involved mystery/thriller/suspense/horror genre with Mrs. Seibert! The students loved it, and the DC Reads Flipgrid posts are awesome!

Overcoming Adversity With Mrs. Trepton-Blue's classes

Whew! This was a project in the making, but Mrs. Trepton-Blue rocked it. Her students are using print and Axis 360 (eBooks and audio books) to read in lit circles. The theme, Overcoming Adversity, couldn't be more timely.

We long for the days of hustle and bustle in our library again. Book dating is much calmer during a pandemic. Smaller numbers and social distancing did not squelch our enthusiasm, however. Great day!

Make it....Safely!

No digital device required here. We've sanitized EVERY. SINGLE. THING. on that table - over, and over, and over, and over. The joy these students experienced was worth the extra effort. The laughter, ooohhhs and ahhhs, and "so awesome!" comments were music to our ears.
