Meet the Media Center Staff
Niki Norby, Media Specialist
Mrs. Norby joined the BLES Media Center in 2020 as the Media Specialist. Prior to that, she worked at BLES as the Stellar Sub from 2018-2020. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication and her Master’s degree in Library Media from Georgia College & State University.
Mrs. Norby has always had a close connection with the BLES community. In fact, she is one of our BLES Student Alumni!

Sweet 16 (1st Round) - Voting on Monday, March 3rd through noon on the 4th. Winners announced on Friday, March 7th.
Elite 8 (2nd Round) - Voting on Monday, March 10th through noon on the 11th. Winners announced on Thursday, March 14th.
Final 4 (3rd Round) - Voting on Monday, March 17th through noon on the 18th. Winners announced on Friday, March 21st.
Championship (Final Round) - Voting on Monday, March 24th through noon on the 25th. Winner announced on Friday, March 28th.

National Student Poetry Contest
Did you know April is National Poetry Month?
In celebration, we are excited to announce a poetry contest for all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students.
Students can write an original poem on any subject, no more than 20 lines, and turn it into the Media Center by Friday, April 18th.
Each students' poetry entry will be submitted to the National Student Poetry Contest, and it may be selected to be published!
Many great prizes such as cash, Amazon gift cards, and electronics will be awarded, just for entering the contest!

GCPS Book Mobile Visit at BLES
The GCPS Book Mobile will visit BLES on the following dates: Monday, April 21st, 2025 - Tuesday, April 22nd, 2025
Every student who is present for their class' scheduled day and time will receive a FREE book! (This is an in-school event for students only.)
Monday, April 21st, 2025 from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students who are present on this date will receive one free book to take home from the Book Mobile!
Tuesday, April 22nd, 2025 from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
3rd grade, 4th grade, and 5th grade students who are present on this date will receive one free book to take home from the Book Mobile!
We can't wait to get books into our students' hands!

GCPS Book Mobile 5K/Fun Run
The Book Mobile 5K raises funds to put books in kids' hands. Our goal is to promote the love of reading for all.
Join us for a fantastic morning full of music, door prizes, awards, snacks and of course, the run.
End of race raffle prizes for 5K runners only.
Chick-fil-A biscuits will be sold for $5 with proceeds benefitting the Book Mobile program.
Leashed dogs and strollers are welcome!

Young Georgia Authors Writing Competition
The Young Georgia Authors Writing Competition 2025 information coming soon!
Unlike many writing competitions, Young Georgia Authors Writing Competition does not give students a prompt to respond to, or provide any other boundaries to their genre choice or creativity beyond a 1900-word maximum length. Entries may include a short story, poem, essay, personal narrative, or any other kind of writing written entirely by the student (no writing, edits, or revisions by an adult).
Important information about the writing competition and an entry form can be found in a folder outside the Media Center and HERE.
All entries must be turned in to the Media Center WITH a completed entry form no later than Wednesday, November 19th, 2025. No late entries or entry forms will be accepted after Wednesday, November 19th.

Media Center Information
Media Center Hours
The Media Center is open for checkouts Monday - Friday from 9:00 AM - 2:30 PM.
Digital resources are available 24/7, including the Media Catalog and the Online Research Library, through eCLASS.
Circulation Procedures
- Kindergarten and 1st grade students may check out 1 book at a time.
- 2nd grade students may check out 1 book at a time during the first semester and 2 books at a time during the second semester.
- 3rd grade, 4th grade, and 5th grade students may check out 2 books at a time.
Students will learn how to log into the Library Catalog to view the books they have checked out and to place books on hold (that are not currently available in the Media Center).
Overdue and Lost Books
All books are due two weeks from the date of check out.
- Students who have any overdue books or outstanding fines will be asked to return their book(s) or pay the overdue/lost charge (fine) before they may check out another book.
- Lost or damaged items must be replaced with a $15 charge (fine) for hardback books or $5 charge (fine) for paperback books. (If materials are later found and returned, the fee will be reimbursed.)
- Book charges (fines) can be paid with cash, check, or on MyPaymentsPlus.

- Gwinnett County Public Library Branch Out - All students are given full access to the print and digital resources of the Gwinnett County Public Library system at any one of their 15 branches around Gwinnett and online. The benefits of having the Gwinnett County Public Library account as a GCPS student are no late fees or fines for overdue public library books and access to all of the print and digital resources provided by the public library
