The Weekly Update #4
January 27th, 2022
Hello LAW Families,
Greetings LAW Families as we step into February!
February, a brief but bustling month, is brimming with exciting activities for our students. Please refer below for additional details.
The Kindness Week events in the last week of January were a hit with our students. Our mission is to sustain this kind spirit throughout the remainder of the school year. We will be running a "soup" can collection during the week of Feb. 5-9 to help those folks who are experiencing food insecurity. See details below.
February brings information sessions for prospective parents of new kindergarten and preschool students for the fall of 2024. Refer to the information flyers below for details on when and how you can attend. These sessions are specifically for incoming kindergarten students and preschoolers in the fall of 2024. If you know anyone beyond the LAW family who could benefit from this information, please feel free to spread the word.
A big thank you to those who submitted artwork for our National Art Show Video on Jan. 3oth. We are proud to showcase the talent of our fabulous artists here at LAW. Check out the slideshow at the bottom of this newsletter.
As we return from February vacation, March awaits, bringing with it preparations for MCAS testing. Further information will be shared as we organize schedules and other crucial details.
Lastly, February is Black History Month. Throughout the month, we will delve into the lives of famous Black Americans.
Wishing you an enriching and vibrant February!
Stay warm,

100s Day is Feb. 7th (If no snow days prior to this date)
Every year we celebrate the 100th day of school. We will be celebrating 100s Day on Feb. 7th this year unless we have an unexpected day off from school between now and then!
During 100s Day students engage in activities that involve the number one hundred. Last year some classes had students work on a home project where they used one hundred items to present a picture - 100 buttons to make a smiley face for instance. The 100s day is a lot of fun and students learn the value of 100! Your child's teacher will provide more information as we approach this special day.
"Souper" Bowl Event Feb. 5-9
During the week prior to the Super Bowl (Feb. 11th), we will conduct a canned food drive. Of course, we will be collecting cans of soup for this special "Souper" Bowl event right here at LAW! Our Panther Leadership Team will keep track of how many cans are collected per grade level. The grade level donating the most cans will be able to "mix it up" at lunch on Monday, Feb. 12th! All proceeds will be donated to the Loaves and Fishes Food Bank! Let's help those who are experiencing food insecurity!
Author Visit Ralph Fletcher - March 1st
Thanks to Mrs. Pasquaretta, our Literacy Coach, and the Ayer Shirley Educational Foundation (ASEF), we are delighted to announce that Ralph Fletcher, an esteemed author of numerous books for readers of all ages, will be visiting our school on March 1st. In addition to being an accomplished author, Mr. Fletcher works as an educational consultant, assisting teachers in discovering more effective methods of teaching writing.
Students will have the opportunity to attend an assembly with Mr. Fletcher, where they will learn about his books and gain insights into his craft as a writer. For those interested in purchasing one of Mr. Fletcher's books ahead of the event, he will be available to sign books. You can obtain the books using the provided flyer or opt to purchase them on Amazon.
We are thrilled to host a genuine and accomplished author in our school, and this event serves as a fantastic kick-off to Read Across America Week. Many thanks to Mrs. Pasquaretta, the Ayer Shirley Educational Foundation, and all involved in making this exciting opportunity possible for our students.

Upcoming Informational Math Night - February 29th
We are delighted to extend an invitation to our upcoming Family Math Night scheduled for February 29, 2024. Following the success of our fall Literacy Night, we are eager to once again bring together our students and their families to delve into the fascinating world of mathematics here at LAW.
This event promises an engaging and enjoyable exploration of various mathematical concepts designed to foster a love for numbers and problem-solving. Students will be able to test their math prowess by participating in various math games. Your input is invaluable to us as we shape this evening's activities, ensuring an enriching experience for all attendees.
Join us as we embark on a journey to discover the wonders of math together. Your participation will contribute to making this Family Math Night a memorable and educational occasion for our entire school community.
We look forward to your collaboration and eagerly anticipate an evening filled with mathematical excitement and fun.

Student of the Month - January - Students Who Demonstrate Kindness!
PBIS
Happy February! During this past month, students continued to be briefed on all school expectations as they pertain to the school, classrooms, recess, bathrooms, and the bus. Students have been working hard to be great community members and have been earning green PAWS to use at the School Store.
In the month ahead, we will continue to educate and reinforce these expectations at our Friday Schoolwide Weekly Meetings. At home, please have a conversation with your student(s) about all school expectations including what it means to be a safe passenger on the school bus--this would be very helpful!
As always, I am here to help and support--please do not hesitate to reach out. I am looking forward to the month ahead. For now, I hope that you all have a safe, healthy, and enjoyable February!
Be You & Be Well,
Dr. Donaher

Opportunity for parents to help during the Winter Carnival
Winter Carnival at LAW
Last year was so successful we want to do it again this year! Winter Carnival is a great event to enjoy before sending everyone off for February vacation! The event will take place in the gym throughout the day on the last Friday before February Vacation Week, Feb. 16th. All grade levels will be scheduled to visit the Winter Carnival on that day. We will have a snow-cone machine, winter theme carnival games, and an art/craft table. The ASPTO will also be involved in supporting this event. We will be looking for a few parent volunteers to help run the activities! We are so excited about this event!
