Kegonsa Family Newsletter
Stoughton Area School District 23-24
March 8, 2024
A HUGE thank you for making Kegonsa such a welcoming place. We had an incredible 95% attendance at our winter family conferences! 🌟 It was heartwarming to see so many families in the building, connecting with our staff and engaging in meaningful conversations about their child's progress. Your involvement truly makes a difference!

Meet our new daytime custodian, Mr. Vale!
My name is Jeff and I've lived in Stoughton all of my life. I'm the youngest of 12 kids in my family. Our family has 6 boys and 6 girls. I have married my wife, Kim, for almost 34 years. We have 2 grown sons, Gregory age 31, married to Gretchen with 2 sons, Logan age 2 1/2, and Mason 6 months old, Conner age 21, and girlfriend, Sydney, who still lives at home and works for Edgerton Contractors. We have 3 pets, a black Lab named Wego and 2 cats, Millie and Kitkat.
As a kindergarten student, I started my education at Kegonsa in 1967 and graduated from SHS in 1980. I enjoy classic cars and have a 1965 Dodge Coronet which I like to race occasionally. I also like snowmobiling. I enjoy spending time outdoors and with my family.
Happy National School Social Worker Week!
This week, we celebrate the invaluable contributions of our School Social Worker, Kayla McDermot. Kayla's dedication and compassion have touched so many students and families at Kegonsa. We are immensely grateful for her tireless efforts in promoting well-being and fostering a positive learning environment.
Thank you, Kayla, for all that you do!

🎉 Happy National AmeriCorps Week! 🥳
We're proud to celebrate the incredible service and impact of AmeriCorps members across the country and right here at Kegonsa. Ms. Lawrence and Ms. Sorenson work with students everyday to help with their reading skills. We are so thankful for your dedication and commitment to building a stronger, more resilient America! #AmeriCorpsWeek #Service #CommunityImpact

3rd Grade Immigration Unit
Third graders have been studying immigration in their Wit & Wisdom unit. To help build background knowledge and build community connections, we invited local people to share their own personal immigration story. Since May, 2022 Stoughton Resettlement has resettled 15 families and 2 individuals in Stoughton. Our students were lucky enough to meet one of those families. A huge thank you to Katya and her daughter for joining our classroom. Our students are looking forward to seeing you out and about in Stoughton!

Introducing the Stoughton Alumni Association: Community Networking for Alumni, Parents, Staff, and Community
The Stoughton Area School District is excited to announce the launch of the Stoughton Alumni Association. This is a free community networking online platform bringing alumni, parents, staff, students, and community partners together, helping us reconnect and celebrate our stories.
We need your input! Help us strengthen the alumni and school community network to better serve you - fill out our online survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/stoughtonalumni
Upcoming Student Survey
SASD students in grades 5-12 will have the opportunity to participate in the School Perceptions Student Life Survey. The survey is designed to measure a student’s engagement at school. It will provide our district with answers to important questions, such as:
What practices and policies help our students learn, and what barriers are in the way?
Do students feel supported?
What could be done to increase student involvement, both in and out of the classroom?
Students will receive the survey by email and our staff will provide an opportunity for students to take the survey during the school day. The survey is online and takes approx. 10 minutes to complete. Once the survey is done, District and school leaders will receive a summary report that will provide valuable insight into areas of strength and the next steps for improvements in the quality of our students’ experiences. The student survey window is from March 4 until March 25.
The survey is not a test, and students’ grades will not be affected by their responses or participation. If you consent for your student to participate in this screening no action is needed. If you do not consent, please contact your child’s building principal no later than January 25.
ESS is hiring substitutes for SASD!
