Fairy Tale Gardens with the Schuylerville Garden Club
This program is Part II of a collaborative effort between the Schuylerville Garden Club and the Schuylerville Public Library to provide area Youth with the opportunity to create a plant based Fairy Garden which will be displayed at the annual SGC Flower Show to be held July 12th and 13th. Each participant will design a Fairy Garden based upon a Fairy Tale of their choosing. Think of the fun ideas one can create using a Fairy Tale theme such as: The Pied Piper, Goldilocks, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Rapunzel, The Prince and the Frog, The Princess and the Pea, Hansel and Gretel....the list is almost endless!! Materials (containers, plants, soil and some accessories) will be available to make the gardens, but it is highly encouraged for participants to bring accessories (and the plant container) they have collected after participation in Part I of the program.**
All of the gardens created on June 28th will be on display at the library until the Flower Show. Starting July 14th, the gardens can be collected at the library to take home.
** (While Part I of the program was held on May 17th, youth are still welcome participate in just Part II. Youth who already have started the project on May 17th will be putting their plants into their already designed garden, and have time to "tweak" the final result. Those who have not yet started the project will need at least one hour to put one together.
Interested parties can register here.

Counting Down to Kindergarten
Registration is now open for our summer session! Classes are on Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning on July 8th and ending on August 14th, from 9:30am-11am.
This program is designed for children ages 3.5 to 5. Siblings are also welcome to attend as long as caregivers are available to assist the child registered in the program.
Counting Down to Kindergarten features the academic and social skills your child will need prior to entering Kindergarten. The typical program has a set routine: First, there is a circle time where stories are read, songs are sung, and learning concepts are introduced. Then the children and their adults are free to explore the various stations. Each station focuses on developing various preschool level skills. Some of these skills are: early literacy, name recognition, letter recognition, counting, number recognition, name, letter, and number writing, playing cooperatively, taking turns, exploring through the senses, fine motor skills, and art exploration.
Parents/caregivers are required to remain with their children throughout the program. It is not a drop-off. We expect that adults will assist their child in learning stations and sit with them during circle time until the child is able to follow directions and participate appropriately on their own.

Library Expansion Updates:
ASPL's Turning a Page Capital Campaign
As many of you have already heard, the library is looking to expand our physical space to better serve our community. Financial and community support is needed in order to make our dream of a better-sized facility a reality. The photo below is a rendering of what the completed expansion would look like. The blueprint to the left details what features and spaces our library will include after finishing the renovation.
There will be a public vote on August 12th of this year for the community to decide if they are ready for the Library to move forward with this expansion. Additionally, the Advocates for the Schuylerville Public Library are fundraising for the project with an initial financial goal of $200,000 which was met in April 2025. We have been blown away by the generosity of our donors thus far and will continue to update the community on the fundraising efforts.
With 57 years since our last capital campaign and major expansion, we understand how significant this change is. When it was completed in 1968, our current building was built to serve just over 1,400 residents. After transitioning from a Village Library to a School District Library in 2013, we now provide service to just over 10,000 residents. Our goal has been and continues to be to serve our community to the best of our ability, and our greatest limitation to that at present is our physical space.
Staff Picks
Question of the Month!
It's a new month, with a new opportunity to learn a little bit about our staff. Each month we ask the staff a question and post the response here in the newsletter. We'd love to hear your response to the question the next time you stop into the library! This month the staff answered the question: "If you could meet any author (living or deceased), who would it be and why?"
Caitlin: "I would like to meet John Keats since he wrote some of my favorite poems and had such a short tragic life with so many beautiful thoughts on what it means to be alive."
Julie: "I would like to meet with C.S. Lewis to discuss The Chronicles of Narnia, Mere Christianity, and A Grief Observed.
I'd love to know how his personal theology shaped his allegory and whether or not these insights returned to him when grief struck.
He was Irish, a rebel with a sense of humor and a personal friend of J.R.R. Tolkien."
Holly: "Maybe Tolkien? I haven't put a whole lot of thought into it, but I admire the man for what he did for the fantasy genre and he seems like he'd be an interesting man to meet."
Emilly: "Mo Willems! He's written so many awesome picture books."
Jessica: " I would like to meet LM Montgomery. I fell in love with the Anne of Green Gables series and would like to know what her inspirations were when creating these books."
Beth: "This is a difficult question for me. For both academic and philosophical reasons, I think I have to go with Rachel Carson. She was a once in a generation writer, scientist, and environmentalist and I'd love to absorb any wisdom I could from her."
Brandi: "If I had to choose someone it would have to be Agatha Christie and I would ask her what happened during those 11 days that she disappeared in 1926.
She was quite the woman altogether; she published 6 books. Her first novel was written as a dare. Her mother did not want her to read until she was 8 but taught herself in order to read earlier. She received no formal education until she was sent to finishing school in Paris at the age of 15. Miss Marple was based on real people. She swore the official oath of detective writing. She was a surfer."
Mary Lou: "This is way too hard to narrow down!!! I have many authors I wish I could meet!! But since I am a lover of history, I will share that the books written by Barbara Tuckman, in particular "The Guns of August", "A Distant Mirror", and "The First Salute" instilled in me a love of history that remains to this day. Her research is impeccable, and her presentation is informative and very interesting."
